The most affected zones are the mountainous area along Truong Son ( Long Mountains ) and the border between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Truong was born Hoainhan Truong in Saigon, South Vietnam.

The objective of the campaign was to prevent the transit of People's Army of Vietnam ( PAVN ) personnel and supplies on the logistical corridor known as the Ho Chi Minh Trail ( the Truong Son Road to the North Vietnamese ) that ran from the southwestern Democratic Republic of Vietnam ( North Vietnam ) through the southeastern portion of the Kingdom of Laos and into the Republic of Vietnam ( South Vietnam ).

It was discovered in the Truong Son mountain range in Vietnam in 1997.

The objective of those attacks was the logistical system of the People's Army of Vietnam ( PAVN ) that snaked through southeastern Laos and was known as the Ho Chi Minh Trail ( the Truong Son Road to the North Vietnamese ).

Truong had planned to bypass the city and push on quickly to the Cua Viet River, thereby isolating any PAVN defenders.

Along the way Mr Truong owned and operated other New York hotels as well, including the infamous Hotel Kenmore Hall on 23rd Street which was seized from Truong by the US Marshals Service in 1994 because of deplorable conditions and rampant crime within the building.

In May 2004, Truong was awarded a Golden Torch Award, by the Vietnamese American National Gala in Washington D. C. Mr. Tran was also on the Board of Directors of The United Way of New York City.

MACV had sought authority for the launching of such missions ( Operation Shining Brass ) since 1964 in an attempt to put boots on the ground in a reconnaissance role to observe, first hand, the enemy logistical system known as the Ho Chi Minh Trail ( the Truong Son Road to the North Vietnamese ).

Trần Bạch Đằng ( born Truong Gia Trieu ) ( 1926 – April 16, 2007 ) was a key figure in planning the 1968 Tet offensive during the Vietnam War, and was the leader of Communist forces in Saigon, the South Vietnamese capital, during that offensive.
