Tryon Fine Arts CenterThe Tryon Fine Arts Center, located on Melrose Avenue in Tryon, is a visual and performing arts center that offers music, drama, film and other cultural programs.

The group, affiliated with the Photographic Society of America, meets monthly and conducts an annual contest where winning submissions are exhibited in the Tryon Fine Arts Center.

After residing in several locations, Tryon Arts & Crafts ( named since 2004 ) is located at 373 Harmon Field Road, adjacent to Harmon Field.

Season performances by this organization can also be seen at the Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon.

Annually a Youth Center Summer Musical production is held at the Tryon Fine Arts Center.

Local artist Betty Burdue created a " Poor Pitiful Morris " Limited Edition poster to " help save Morris ", T-shirts are to be made, and an art exhibition will be held at The Tryon Fine Arts Center on July 28-August 4, 2012, exhibiting " All Morris, All The Time " fine art and sculpture, jewelry and a big surprise.

* Greene Corner, on Melrose Avenue across from the entrance to the Tryon Fine Arts Center, is a beautiful garden and gazebo often used for wedding photos.

In April, 1960 200 area residents pledged a one-dollar membership fee to support what would be called Tryon Crafts, Inc. " Recapturing Tryon's history as an artist's colony ," local artisans began selling work and teaching classes.

Tryon is located near a " thermal belt ", an area generally free of dew and frost, provides an enjoyable climate year-around.

The Tryon Concert Asscoation provides a series of four concerts from the fall through spring with talent that rivals that of large metropolitan cities.

In addition, the M4 bus provides wheelchair accessible service to Fort Tryon Park, continuing inside the park to the Cloisters Museum when open.

The community which has grown into the Town of Clayton was built on a road cut blazed by Governor Tryon ’ s troops around 1770 as they marched North from New Bern to Hillsborough against the Regulators.

The idea for a library was developed in 1889 by five women from Tryon with the goal of being " the source of intellectual and cultural stimulation for the community ", achieved through library membership to local women.

The community is named after early land owner Fred S. Tryon.

In 1951 Alfred Colby Hockings and his wife — he was a well-known illustrator for Field and Stream magazine, originally from Wisconsin but most recently living in the artists ' community of Tryon, North Carolina —- built a home up the street from the Gasques and Sorrys and across from the Baarslags ; at almost the same time another Dutch family — Gerbrand and Nellie Poster, the son-in-law and daughter of the Baarslags, came down from New York City to visit her parents for Christmas, decided to stay, and built a home next door to her parents.

Founded in 1983, the Friends of Fort Tryon Park, inc. was established to involve the entire community surrounding the park in maintaining and improving the park's appearance and condition and promoting its use by the public.

In early 2000, the Fort Tryon Park Trust was formed to promote the restoration, preservation and enhancement of this historic and scenic landmark for the benefit and use of the surrounding community and all New Yorkers.

William Johnson was a military commander during the French and Indian War ( Seven Years War ), had promoted the British settlement of the Mohawk Valley and trading with the Mohawk, and founded the community of Johnstown in Tryon County in the Province of New York.

Tryon is an unincorporated community in and the county seat of McPherson County, Nebraska, United States.

He noted, ' Captains ... to be successful must possess, in a marked degree, initiative, resource, determination, and no fear of accepting responsibility ', and particularly regarding wartime conditions '... as a rule instructions will be of a very general character so as to avoid interfering with the judgement and initiative of captains ... The admiral will rely on captains to use all the information at their disposal to grasp the situation quickly and anticipate his wishes, using their own discretion as to how to act in unforeseen circumstances ..' The approach outlined by Beatty contradicted the views of many within the navy, who felt that ships should always be closely controlled by their commanding admiral, and harked back to reforms attempted by Admiral George Tryon.

* 1893 – The Royal Navy battleship accidentally rams the British Mediterranean Fleet flagship which sinks taking 358 crew with her, including the fleet's commander, Vice-Admiral Sir George Tryon.

However, he was wrecked on HMS Victoria when it collided with HMS Camperdown ( the flagship of the Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet, Vice-Admiral Sir George Tryon ) off Tripoli on 22 June 1893 ; the Admiral, 21 officers and 350 men drowned.

* June 22 – The flagship Victoria of the British Mediterranean Fleet collides with Camperdown and sinks in 10 minutes ; Vice-admiral Sir George Tryon goes down with his ship.

* January 9 – William Tryon, governor of the Royal Colony of North Carolina, signs a contract with architect John Hawks to build Tryon Palace, a lavish Georgian style governor's mansion on the New Bern waterfront.

In search of gold, de Soto explored the Asheville area and met with Cherokee Indians in Xuala, the area now known as Tryon.

Grace Hall, a local resident who had been trapped in her home for three weeks, wrote to the Tryon Daily Bulletin with an idea: form a local crafts center so that area residents would have the knowledge to create arts or crafts so that in the wake of another blizzard they would have something to do with their time.

" Much of that started with Carter Brown who came to Tryon from Michigan in 1917 and opened the Pine Crest Inn, a place where moneyed northerners could enjoy riding horses or play golf during the winter months.
