The main magazine of this group from 1884 – 1957 was The Fraternal Visitor, whose editors included J. J. Bishop and J. J. Hadley ( d. 1912 ), then Thomas Turner, and finally Cyril Cooper ( till reunion in 1957 ).

Among the prominent figures who have called for the abolition of nuclear weapons are " the philosopher Bertrand Russell, the entertainer Steve Allen, CNN ’ s Ted Turner, former Senator Claiborne Pell, Notre Dame president Theodore Hesburg, South African Bishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama ".

In 1839 he married Charlotte Esther, daughter of Tomkyns Hilgrove Turner, and fathered five children, of which Susan Esther ( 1842-1894 ) who married John Wordsworth, future Bishop of Salisbury.
