Tweety was toned down when Friz Freleng started directing the series into a more cutesy bird, and even more when Granny was introduced, however sometimes Tweety still kept his malicious side.

In an episode of Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries set in Australia, Sylvester stumbled into a group of baby kangaroos, who all resembled Hippety Hopper, and commented that this was the first time he had seen the " giant mice " for years.

It is then revealed that this turned Tweety into a dinosaur.

The premise of this cartoon would be adapted into The Last Hungry Cat later with Sylvester trying on his own to get rid of his hunger for Tweety.

Meanwhile Robert Zemeckis helmed Who Framed Roger Rabbit, in which featured several famous cartoon characters from the " Golden Age of animation " including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Droopy, Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner, Sylvester the cat, Tweety Pie and Jiminy Cricket among others.

Regardless of this treatment, its characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, Sylvester, and Porky Pig became central to the company's image in subsequent decades.

The Looney Tunes characters have had more success in the area of television, with appearances in several originally produced series, including Taz-Mania ( 1991, starring The Tasmanian Devil ), The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries ( 1995, starring Sylvester the cat, Tweety Bird and Granny ), Baby Looney Tunes ( 2002, which had a similar premise to Muppet Babies ), and Duck Dodgers ( 2003, starring Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and Marvin the Martian ).

Tweety appeared in several television specials and feature-film compilations, along with Sylvester, in the 1970s and 1980s.

In a 1995 Frosted Cheerios commercial, Tweety ( along with Sylvester ) made a rare special appearance.

In the MAD segment " Dinosaurs with bird effects ", Sylvester appeared as a saber-toothed cat and Tweety appeared as a dinosaur.

In his commentary as part of the 1970s documentary film, Bugs Bunny: Superstar, Clampett discussed the fact that his early version of Tweety Bird had to be redesigned after his first picture because the producers thought he " looked naked ".

In the documentary Bugs Bunny: a Superstar, animator Clampett stated, in a sotto voce " aside " to the audience, that Tweety had been based " on my own naked baby picture ".

From 1945 until the original Warner Bros. Cartoons studio closed, Freleng had almost exclusive use of Tweety at the Warner cartoon studio ( much like Yosemite Sam ), with the exception of a brief cameo in No Barking in 1954, directed by Chuck Jones ( that year, Freleng used Pepé Le Pew, a Jones character, for the only time in his career and the only time in a Tweety short, Dog Pounded ).

Tweety had a cameo appearance in My Book about Me.

Tweety had a small part in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, " accidentally " causing Eddie Valiant ( Bob Hoskins ) to fall from a pole by playing " This Little Piddy " with Valiant's fingers and loosening his grip.

On Animaniacs, Tweety had a quick cameo in the Slappy Squirrel short subject, Scare Happy Slappy and appeared in The Warners 65th Anniversary Special.

A 1996 Christmas commercial for Target featuring LeAnn Rimes had Tweety giving her a kiss on the cheek as the other Looney Tunes characters danced to Rimes ' song " Put a Little Holiday In Your Heart ".

Pepé would appear once more in " Tweety's High-Flying Adventure ", falling in love with both Sylvester and Penelope ( Sylvester had gotten a white stripe on his back from Penelope as they fought over Tweety ), actually showing a preference for Sylvester.

The name " Tweety " is a play on words, as it originally meant " sweetie ", along with " tweet " being a typical English onomatopoeia for the sounds of birds.

Bob Clampett created the character that would become Tweety in the 1942 short A Tale of Two Kitties, pitting him against two hungry cats named Babbit and Catstello ( based on the famous comedians Abbott and Costello ).

Clampett began work on a short that would pit Tweety against a then-unnamed, lisping black and white cat created by Friz Freleng in 1945.

Eventually, someone must have commented on the grammar of "... did taw ..."; in later cartoons, Tweety says " I did!

Sylvester was # 33 on TV Guide's list of top 50 best cartoon characters, together with Tweety.

Joseph " Joe " Alaskey ( born April 17, 1949 ) is an American actor, comedian, and voice artist, credited as one of the successors of Mel Blanc in impersonating the voices of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Sylvester, Tweety and other characters from Warner Bros. cartoons, such as Plucky Duck on Tiny Toon Adventures from 1990-95.

Even in this initial appearance, Tweety reveals early on that his cute appearance masks a willingness to be merciless, even sadistic, towards anyone who threatens him.

Allegedly, when Tweety's creator, director Bob Clampett, left the Warner Bros. studio in 1946, he was working on a fourth film starring Tweety, whom he would pair with Friz Freleng ’ s Sylvester, who previously appeared with Porky Pig in his cartoon Kitty Kornered ( released in 1946 ).

Freleng adopted the Tweety project and merged it with a project he was working on — a follow-up to his second Sylvester cartoon, Peck Up Your Troubles, featuring Sylvester in pursuit of a witty woodpecker.

Selzer allowed Tweety to be used, and the resulting film went on to win WB's first Academy Award for Best Short Subject ( Cartoons ) which Selzer accepted.

The cartoon would also go on to become a phenomenal success, and Tweety would always be paired with Sylvester from that point on as a result, because the duo carried a high amount of star power ( in the meantime, Sylvester continued to appear in a fair amount of cartoons without Tweety ).
