`` The white colonnaded, cedar-roofed Southern mansion is directly traceable via the grey and buff stone of grey-skied England to the golden stucco of one particular part of the blue South, the Palladian orbit stretching out from Vicenza: the old mind of Andrea Palladio still smiles from behind many an old rocking chair on a Southern porch, the deep friezes of his architectonic music rise firm above the shallower freeze in the kitchen, his feeling for light and shade brings a glitter from a tall mint julep, his sense of columns framing the warm velvet night has brought together a million couple of mating lips ''.

A German ethnic minority have settled in the mountains between Vicenza, Verona and Trento in Italy ( also known as Seven Communities ) is also called the Cimbri (: it: Cimbri ( minoranza linguistica )).

* 1585 – The Olympic Theatre, designed by Andrea Palladio, is inaugurated in Vicenza.

The party won 66. 8 % in eastern Lombardy ( 73. 6 % in the Province of Bergamo ), 60. 5 % in Veneto ( 71. 9 % in the Province of Vicenza ), 69. 6 % in Trentino and 57. 8 % in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, that is to say where the late Italian People's Party had its strongholds.

* The Palazzo della Ragione, with its great hall on the upper floor, is reputed to have the largest roof unsupported by columns in Europe ; the hall is nearly rectangular, its length, its breadth, and its height ; the walls are covered with allegorical frescoes ; the building stands upon arches, and the upper storey is surrounded by an open loggia, not unlike that which surrounds the basilica of Vicenza.

Padua is also the birthplace of the famous architect Andrea Palladio, whose 16th century " ville " ( country-houses ) in the area of Padua, Venice, Vicenza and Treviso are among the most beautiful of Italy and they were often copied during the 18th and 19th centuries ; and of Giovanni Battista Belzoni, adventure-man, engineer and egyptologist.

There is also another smaller group called Piccole Dolomiti ( Little Dolomites ) located between the provinces of Trentino, Verona and Vicenza ( see the map ).

Traditionally Mount Summano ( elevation 1291 m .) in the Alps near Vicenza ( Veneto, Italy ) is considered a site of the cult of god Pluto, Iupiter Summanus and the Manes.

The area was one of the last strongholds of ancient religion in Italy as is shown by the fact that Vicenza had no bishop til 590 CE.

Vicenza is home to the United States Army post Caserma Ederle ( Camp Ederle ), also known as the U. S. Army Garrison Vicenza.

The Gold Exposition is world-famous and it takes place in Vicenza three times per year ( January, May, September ).

The average age of Vicenza residents is 43 compared to the Italian average of 42.

The current birth rate of Vicenza is 9. 16 births per 1, 000 inhabitants compared to the Italian average of 9. 45 births.

The inhabitants of Vicenza are jokingly known to other Italians as mangiagatti, ' cat eaters '.

Scamozzi had already stepped in to complete Palladio's other great unfinished project, the villa just east of Vicenza that is today known as La Rotonda.

The baccalà alla vicentina, an ancient and traditional Italian dish native to Vicenza, is made from stockfish ( confusingly not from salt cod, although salt cod is known in standard Italian as baccalà ) and is served on or next to polenta.

Born in Vicenza, he may have studied with Adrian Willaert in Venice, which was close by, and he acquired an early interest in the contemporary humanistic revival, including the study of ancient Greek music theory and performance practice ( about which little was known, but was then being uncovered, through the work of scholars such as Girolamo Mei and Giangiorgio Trissino ).

Vicenza and Messina are known as Gemellaggi ( English: Twinning ) with Pescara.

In one of his best essays Mr. Sansom expresses his enthusiasm for the many country mansions designed by Andrea Palladio himself that dot the environs of Vicenza.

Under long-standing bilateral agreements flowing from NATO membership, Italy hosts important U. S. military forces at Vicenza – home of 173d Airborne Brigade – and Livorno ( USA ); Aviano ( USAF ); and Sigonella, Nisida, and Gaeta – home port for the U. S. Navy Sixth Fleet.

The house is often said to be directly inspired by Palladio's Villa Capra " La Rotonda " near Vicenza, due to the fact that architect Colen Campbell had offered Lord Burlington a design for a Villa very closely based on the Villa Capra for his use at Chiswick.

However, the source for the octagonal form of the dome, the Upper Tribunal, Lower Tribunal and cellar at Chiswick all possibly derive from Vincenzo Scamozzi's Rocca Pisana near Vicenza.

This philosophy was vaguely similar to Andrea Palladio's approach to his Villas in Vicenza, many of which had a semi-agricultural purpose, with the ground floor used for domestic and commercial activities, and the piano noble used for entertainment.

Another variation on this story was told by the contemporary chronicler Ferretto of Vicenza, who applied the idea to a Neapolitan Templar brought before Clement V, whom he denounced for his injustice.

Abizaid commanded the 3rd Battalion, 325th Airborne Regiment combat Team in Vicenza, Italy, during the Persian Gulf War and deployed with the battalion in Northern Iraq to provide a safe haven for the Kurds.

Her mother, Maria Carolina, like her famous mother before her, Empress Maria Theresa, made an effort to be a part of her daughter's life, though she was cared for daily by her governess, Donna Vicenza Rizzi.
