* 1940 – The Second Vienna Award re-assigns the territory of Northern Transylvania from Romania to Hungary.

On 7 September 1940, Bulgaria succeeded in negotiating a recovery of Southern Dobruja with the Treaty of Craiova ( see Second Vienna Award ).

Lang was born in Vienna as the second son of Anton Lang ( 1860 – 1940 ), an architect and construction company manager, and his wife Pauline " Paula " Lang née Schlesinger ( 1864 – 1920 ).

In 1940 the Second Vienna Award gave back Northern Transylvania and finally Hungary occupied the Bácska and Muraköz regions during the Invasion of Yugoslavia.

In August 1940, Ribbentrop oversaw the Second Vienna Award, which saw about 40 % of Transylvania region of Romania returned to Hungary.

In August 1940, Northern Transylvania was awarded to Hungary by Germany and Italy through the Second Vienna Award.

Due to its pro-German stance, Hungary received favourable territorial settlements when Germany annexed Czechoslovakia in 1938 – 1939 and received Northern Transylvania from Romania via the Vienna Awards of 1940.

On 30 August 1940, Germany forced Romania to cede Northern Transylvania to Hungary as a result of the second Vienna Award.

To assuage this resentment, Germany and Italy implemented the Vienna Awards in 1938 and 1940 and this was subsequently followed by Hungary joining the Tripartite Pact on November 20, 1940.

On 15 December 1940, the remains of Napoléon II were transferred from Vienna to the dome of Les Invalides in Paris.

Norrington claims that vibrato in the earliest recordings is used only selectively, as an expressive device ; the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra were not recorded using vibrato comparable to modern vibrato until 1935, and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra not until 1940.

c. In August 1940, as the second Vienna Award transferred the northern half of Transylvania to Hungary, an exile of Romanian inhabitants began.

As a result of the Second Vienna Award, it has been returned to Hungary between 1940 and 1945.

Although it was the most dedicated ally of Germany, Romania's turning to the Allied side in August 1944 was rewarded with Northern Transylvania, which had been granted to Hungary in 1940 after the Second Vienna Award.

After growing up in Vienna and attending Volks-& Hauptschule, he worked as an office intern for three years ; in 1940, he was conscripted during World War II, and transferred to a punishment battalion after suffering a war wound in 1941.

In 1939 Schütte-Lihotzky joined the Austrian Communist Party ( KPÖ ) and in December 1940, of her own free will, together with Eichholzer, travelled back to Vienna to secretly contact the Austrian Communist resistance movement.

1 May 1939-1 April 1940 Josef Bürckel ( b. 1895-d. 1944 ) NSDAP, in fact the maintained last Austrian Premier of 15 October 1938 constituted metropolitan capital city-entity Gross-Wien ( Great Vienna ), is in transitional office, then the same is made the first of two Reichsstatthalter ( he till 10 August 1940 ), equivalent to a Gauleiter in Germany proper.

From 1940 to 1944, as a consequence of the Second Vienna Award, the city was ceded back to Hungary.

Due to the persecution of Jews, Tintner moved out of Vienna in 1938, arriving in Auckland, New Zealand in 1940.

In 1940, as a result of the Second Vienna Award, Northern Transylvania ( including Cluj ) was ceded to Hungary and thus the airport was used by the Hungarian Air Force and German Luftwaffe.

This arrangement was later revised at the Congress of Vienna.

Among the items are the printer's manuscript of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, complete with Beethoven's hand-written amendments, that was used for the first performance in Vienna in 1824 ; Mozart's autograph of the wind parts of the final scene of The Marriage of Figaro ; Beethoven's arrangement of his monumental Große Fuge for piano four hands ; Schumann's working draft of his Symphony No. 2 ; and manuscripts of Brahms's Symphony No. 2 and Piano Concerto No. 2.

Curiously, many of these arrangements are labelled as ' Music of the Old Vienna ' when played with such an arrangement, as it could be possible that Strauss ' melodies in this waltz invokes the feeling of the romance of the Old Vienna.

A piano arrangement by the composer contributed much to its success beyond Vienna.

He continued his association with Schoenberg as a pianist for the composer's Society for Private Musical Performances in Vienna, and made an arrangement for piano trio of Schoenberg's Verklärte Nacht.

Authors whose usage predates Steiner's include occultist Agrippa von Nettesheim, alchemist Thomas Vaughn ( Anthroposophia Theomagica ), and philosophers Immanuel Hermann Fichte and Robert Zimmermann ( Anthroposophie im Umriss ); Steiner wrote his doctoral thesis on Fichte and attended Zimmermann's classes at the University of Vienna.

Other notable 17th-century outbreaks were the Italian Plague ( 1629 – 1631 ); the Great Plague of Seville ( 1647 – 1652 ); the Great Plague of London ( 1665 – 1666 ); and the Great Plague of Vienna ( 1679 ).

The complete uncut French version was performed first at the Hamburg State Opera in 2001, then and as filmed for DVD at the Staatsoper in Vienna ( 2004 ) and at the Liceu, Barcelona ( 2006 ); its conductor in Vienna was Bertrand de Billy.

He later continued studying in Vienna with Georg Joseph Vogler, known as Abbé Vogler, founder of three important music schools ( in Mannheim, Stockholm, and Darmstadt ); another famous pupil of Vogler was Giacomo Meyerbeer, who became a close friend of Weber.

The world's first professorship in political economy was established in 1754 at the University of Naples Federico II, Italy ( then capital city of the Kingdom of Naples ); the Neapolitan philosopher Antonio Genovesi was the first tenured professor ; in 1763 Joseph von Sonnenfels was appointed a Political Economy chair at the University of Vienna, Austria.

In prose, the work of the modernist generation was only now coming into its own, but the different stylistic waves that affected their prose are also evident in the work of the new generation — naturalism ( A. M Tilšchová ); impressionism ( Šrámek, Gellner, Jiří Mahen, Jan Opolský, Rudolf Těsnohlídek ); the Vienna Secession ( Růžena Svobodová, Jan Karásek ).

* In a few ' Crown lands ' of the Austrian Empire, one seat in the Landtag ( regional legislature of semi-feudal type ) was reserved for the Rector of the capital's university, notably: Graz in Steiermark ( Styria ), Innsbruck in Tirol, Wien ( Vienna ) in Nieder-Österreich ( Lower Austria ); in Bohemia, two Rectors seated in the equivalent Landesvertretung

The title descended directly to Henry, 10th Earl ( 1734 – 1794 ), a soldier, who wrote " The Method of Breaking Horses " ( 1762 ); George Augustus, 11th Earl ( 1759 – 1827 ), an ambassador extraordinary to Vienna in 1807.

Located about 26 kilometres south of Vienna, frequently the name is given as Baden bei Wien ( Baden near Vienna ); this name, however, is not official, but can be used to distinguish it from other cities of the same name such as Baden-Baden or Baden, Switzerland.

In March 1907 he had resigned his conductorship of the Vienna State Opera, as the musical community in Vienna turned against him ( which was why he chose Prague for the work's debut ); on 12 July his first daughter died of scarlet fever ; and, even as she lay on her deathbed, Mahler learnt that he was suffering from an incurable heart condition.
