During this period, Vivekananda returned to Baranagar Math a few times, because of ill health and to arrange for monetary funds after Balaram Bose and Suresh Chandra Mitra, the disciples of Ramakrishna who sponsored the Math had died.

Swami Prabhavananda died on the bicentennial of America's independence, July 4, 1976, and on the 74th anniversary of the death, or mahasamadhi, of Swami Vivekananda, the founder of the Ramakrishna Order in India and many of the Vedanta centers in America and Europe.

While staying in Allahabad he also had a vision of Swami Vivekananda on the day the latter died in 1902.

Later Vivekananda travelled to Bangalore, where he became acquainted with K. Seshadri Iyer, the Dewan of the Mysore state, and stayed at the palace as a guest of the Maharaja of Mysore, Chamaraja Wodeyar.

On learning that Vivekananda lacked credential to speak at the Chicago Parliament, Wright is quoted as having said, " To ask for your credentials is like asking the sun to state its right to shine in the heavens.

The Boston Evening Transcript reported that Vivekananda was " a great favourite at the parliament ... if he merely crosses the platform, he is applauded ".

On 1 May 1897 at Calcutta, Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission — the organ for social service.

Swami Vivekananda was the chief architect who profoundly projected the rich culture of India to the west at the end of 19th century.

Ratnam grew up in Chennai, doing his schooling there completed his graduation with a degree in commerce at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College which is affiliated with Madras University, Chennai and then obtained an MBA from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, after which he worked as a management consultant before becoming a filmmaker.

After the death of their master, the monastic disciples led by Vivekananda formed a fellowship at a half-ruined house at Baranagar near the river Ganges, with the financial assistance of the householder disciples.

Later Swami Vivekananda became a wandering monk and in 1893 he was a delegate at the 1893 Parliament of the World's Religions.

The original monastery at Baranagar known as Baranagar Math was subsequently moved to Alambazar area nearby in 1892, then to Nilambar Mukherjee's Garden House, south of the present Belur Math in 1898 before finally being shifted in January 1899 to a newly acquired plot of land at Belur in Howrah district by Swami Vivekananda.

Like Swami Vivekananda, he was a great success at the Parliament and received a fair bit of media attention.

" Vivekananda never said that things were absolutely determined and placed emphasis on the power of conscious choice to alter one's past karma: " It is the coward and the fool who says this is his fate.

This is remembered as the place where Swami Vivekananda stayed for nine days when he visited Chennai in 1897.

After the groundwork of about nine years, Vivekananda Kendra was officially founded on 7 January 1972 ( the 108th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda by the Hindu calendar ).

In the 19th and 20th centuries, prominent figures of Indian spirituality such as Swami Vivekananda, Ramana Maharshi, Swami Sivananda and A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami emphasized the importance of ahimsa.

After an accidental meeting between Jamsetji N. Tata and Swami Vivekananda on a ship in 1893 where they discussed Tata's plan of bringing the steel industry to India, Tata wrote to Vivekananda five years later:

Vivekananda endorsed the project with enthusiasm, and Tata, with the aim of advancing the scientific capabilities of the country, constituted a Provisional Committee to prepare a plan for setting up of an Institute of research and higher education.

In America Vivekananda became India's spiritual ambassador.

In India Vivekananda is regarded as a patriotic saint of modern India and his birthday is celebrated as National Youth Day.

Swami Vivekananda was born as Narendranath Dutta in Calcutta, the capital of British India, on 12 January 1863 during the Makar Sankranti festival.

The house of 3, Gour Mohan Mukherjee street, Kolkata, where Vivekananda was born, now it is maintained by the Ramakrishna Mission.
