WTBU ( 640 AM, 89. 3 FM ) is a " Part 15 " student-managed and-operated radio station at Boston University.

WTBU is on the air 22 hours a day, any day that the BU dorms are open ( at least eight months of the year ).

WTBU is somewhat unusual in that it is entirely " student managed.

These limits are very, very low ( the equivalent to one-tenth of a watt ) and generally work on a building-by-building basis ... that is, if you are inside, say, Shelton Hall, you can hear WTBU on 640AM.

There are a few work-study positions at WBUR and sometimes they are filled by WTBU volunteers, but there is no formal connection between the stations.

While at Boston University he worked at the campus station WTBU before a brief stint at WNTN in Newton, Massachusetts.

In 1973, he started to work at WTBU, the campus radio station where he spun records, read the news, and hosted interviews.

He also hosted a show with three fellow students on WTBU, the campus radio station, named The King Schmaltz Bagel Hour which was cancelled during its first broadcast for a sketch called " Godzilla Goes to Harlem ".

Prior to 2005, the station was known as WTBU, and was owned by Butler University.

While at Boston University, Stern worked at WTBU and worked his first professional radio job in 1975.

Several schools have their own radio stations, such as WBRS, WEEI, WMFO, WERS, WRKO, WMLN, WUMB, WAVM, WMBR, WUML, WHRB, WZBC, and WTBU.

Virtually all the students at WTBU learn by doing.

In modern times, WTBU relies more on its webcast, and on an audio feed to the campus cable BUTV channel 6, to reach its listeners.

It has nothing to do with WTBU.
