In opera, a new Romantic atmosphere combining supernatural terror and melodramatic plot in a folkloric context was first successfully achieved by Carl Maria von Weber ( 1786 – 1826 ) and perfected by Richard Wagner ( 1813 – 1883 ) in his Ring Cycle.

In a first for the genre, in 2009 the British Glyndebourne Festival Opera company offered an online digital video download of its complete 2007 production of Wagner ’ s Tristan und Isolde.

The first is a typical classical orchestra ( i. e. Beethoven / Haydn ), the second is typical of an early / mid-romantic ( i. e. Brahms / Dvořák / Tchaikovsky ), late romantic / early 20th century ( i. e. Wagner / Mahler / Stravinsky ), to the common complement of a present day modern orchestras ( i. e. Adams / Barber / Copland / Glass ).

The franchise joined the National League in its sixth season in 1887 and was competitive from its early years, winning three National League titles from 1901 to 1903, playing in the very first World Series in 1903 and winning their first World Series in 1909 behind Honus Wagner.

Then on the first play of the Cowboys ' next drive, Steelers defensive back Mike Wagner intercepted a pass from Staubach and returned it 19 yards to the Dallas 7-yard line.

But Pittsburgh defensive back Mel Blount intercepted a pass from Staubach and returned it 13 yards to the 29, with a personal foul on Dallas tight end Billy Joe Dupree adding another 15 yards and giving the Steelers the ball at their own 44-yard line ( note: The interception happened on exactly the same play that Drew Pearson scored on in the first quarter of Super Bowl X. Mike Wagner intercepted Staubach on exactly the same playcall in the 4th quarter of the same game .).

According to Benjamin, these drafts were astonishing for “ the precision of their materialist deciphering ,” as well as the way in which “ musical facts … had been made socially transparent in a way that was completely new to me .” In his Wagner study, the thesis later to characterize Dialectic of Enlightenment — man's domination of nature — first emerges.

In 1854, Wagner first read Schopenhauer, and was struck by the philosopher's theories on aesthetics.

Following the completion of Tristan und Isolde, Wagner resumed work on Die Meistersinger in 1861 with a completely different philosophical outlook from that he held when he first drafted his comedy.

These years were some of Wagner's most difficult: the 1861 Paris production of Tannhäuser was a fiasco, Wagner gave up hope of completing Der Ring des Nibelungen, the 1864 Vienna production of Tristan und Isolde was abandoned after 77 rehearsals, and finally in 1866 Wagner's first wife, Minna died.

At the end of the first performance, the audience called for Wagner, who appeared at the front of the Royal box, which he had been sharing with King Ludwig.

Wagner wrote the first prose draft of the story in Paris early in May 1840, basing the story on Heinrich Heine's satire " The Memoirs of Mister von Schnabelewopski " ( Aus den Memoiren des Herrn von Schnabelewopski ) published in Der Salon in 1834.

He changed the location and names to the final Norwegian version while the opera was in rehearsals for its first production, which took place in Dresden in January 1843 with Wagner himself conducting.

Lohengrin is a romantic opera in three acts composed and written by Richard Wagner, first performed in 1850.

The first production of Lohengrin was in Weimar, Germany on 28 August 1850 at the Staatskapelle Weimar under the direction of Franz Liszt, a close friend and early supporter of Wagner.

It was notably the first performance of any Wagner opera in Italy.

The performance on 9 November was attended by Giuseppe Verdi, who annotated a copy of the vocal score with his impressions and opinions of Wagner ( this was almost certainly his first exposure to Wagner's music ).

Yet Adorno ’ s work continued with studies of Beethoven and Richard Wagner ( published in 1939 as " Fragments on Wagner "), drafts of which he read to Benjamin during their final meeting, in December on the Italian Riviera.

At this meeting Wagner read to Meyerbeer from the libretto of Rienzi, and Meyerbeer agreed to look through the score, which indeed he subsequently recommended for performance at Dresden.

Encouraged by his father he developed a taste for music, and Richard Wagner in particular, in pursuit of which he taught himself to read music and to speak German.

Though his friendship with Richard Wagner was nearly over, Wagner actually received a signed copy, though he never read it, saying Nietzsche would thank him for this one day.

The extensive work of creating these grade separation projects was extensively covered in the Proceedings of the Engineers ' Club of Philadelphia ( volume 16, page 1 ) in " Pennsylvania Avenue Subway and Tunnel " based on a paper read by George Webster on October 15, 1898 and in the Journal of the Engineers Society of Pennsylvania ( volume 8, page 303 ) in an article titled " Grade Separation — Two Distinct Methods " based on a paper delivered on November 16, 1916 by Samuel Wagner, Chief Engineer of the P & R.

Anybody could read the lines I've been given ," Ms Wagner said.

In addition to his interpretations of lieder and the works of Mozart, Prey sang in Strauss operas and tackled lighter Wagner roles such as Wolfram.

In his opera Parsifal, Richard Wagner identifies the Holy Spear with two items that appear in Wolfram von Eschenbach's medieval poem Parzival, a bleeding spear in the Castle of the Grail and the spear that has wounded the Fisher King.

Wolfram himself appears as a character in another Wagner opera, Tannhäuser.

Ancona also undertook roles composed by Leoncavallo ( Silvio and Tonio ), Puccini ( Lescaut and Marcello ), Mascagni ( Alfio and David in L ' amico Fritz ), Giordano ( Gerard in Andrea Chénier ), Mozart ( Don Giovanni and Figaro ) and Wagner ( Wolfram, Telramund and even, on occasion, Hans Sachs ).

Unlike Fischer-Dieskau, Prey wisely limited his Wagner to the soft, high-baritone roles Wolfram and Beckmesser.

Wolfram von Eschenbach's version inspired two later romances and the opera Lohengrin by Richard Wagner.

Carl Maria von Weber, a relative of Mozart by marriage whom Wagner has characterized as the most German of German composers, is said to have refused to join Ludlams-Höhle, a social club of which Salieri was a member and avoided having anything to do with him.

Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg ( The Mastersingers of Nuremberg ) is an opera in three acts, written and composed by Richard Wagner.

Wagner marks this moment with a direct musical and textual reference to Tristan und Isolde: " Mein Kind, von Tristan und Isolde kenn ' ich ein traurig Stück.

In his 1843 Autobiographical Sketch Wagner acknowledged he had taken the story from Heinrich Heine's retelling of the legend in his 1833 satirical novel The Memoirs of Mister von Schnabelewopski ( Aus den Memoiren des Herrn von Schnabelewopski ).

Wagner did not resume work on Parsifal for eight years, during which time he completed Tristan und Isolde and began Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.

Stage designs were by Max Brückner and Paul von Joukowsky who took their lead from Wagner himself.

Tristan und Isolde ( Tristan and Isolde, or Tristan and Isolda, or Tristran and Ysolt ) is an opera, or music drama, in three acts by Richard Wagner to a German libretto by the composer, based largely on the romance by Gottfried von Straßburg.

By the end of 1854, Wagner had sketched out all three acts of an opera on the Tristan theme, based on Gottfried von Strassburg's telling of the story.

Hans von Bülow was chosen to conduct the production at the Munich Opera, despite the fact that Wagner was having an affair with his wife, Cosima von Bülow.
