Walking trails line Lake Hefner and Lake Overholser in the northwest part of the city and downtown at the canal and the Oklahoma River.

Walking trails through prairie, woodlands, and wetlands are available, and interpretive trails are being developed.

Walking and hiking trails have been opened by the Nature Tourism Programme which allow exploration of the island's dense Karst forestation.

Walking trails and cycling paths were built along the park to encourage public use.

Walking trails include Nymph Falls Regional Park, Seal Bay Regional Nature Park and the Courtenay Riverway Heritage Walk.

Walking trails crisscross the eastern side of the park.

There are two independent trails that visitors may follow in addition to the safari tour: the Pula Reserve Walking Trail ( 800 metres / approximately 40 minutes ) which focuses on African animals, including lions, Vervet Monkeys, Cheetahs and meerkats, and the Volcanic Plains Walk ( 500 metres / approximately 30 minutes ), which focuses on Australian animals, like the wallaby and kangaroo.

Walking trails descend from the park to two miles ( 3 km ) of beach and the lighthouse.

Walking trails ( including part of the famous Heysen Trail ) provide access to most of the park.

Walking trails are colour coded green easy, blue moderate, and red most difficult.

Walking trails commence in the north-east of the suburb which run to the north of Federal Golf Course through to Red Hill Nature Reserve.

The Pond surroundings provide popular walking trails through bushland for local residents, and some trails connect with the Canberra equestrian trail and the Kambah Pool to Pine Island Walking Track.

Walking and hillclimbing are among the more popular pursuits of Graiguenamanagh area and with the South Leinster Way meandering through the lovely Barrrow Valley and traversing nearby Brandon Hill, scope is provided for the a gentle stroll or a vigorous, day-long hike.

In the late 1970s and 1980s, the area became a major point of entry for Salvadoran and Guatemalan immigrants seeking refuge from civil war, according to the Pico Union Self-Guided Walking Tour, published in 2009 by the Los Angeles Conservancy.

American Saddlebreds, Tennessee Walking Horses and Missouri Fox Trotters also originated in the same general geographic area, from the same mixing of Spanish and English blood.

Walking near corals also can lead to sediment being stirred up and covering corals, which leads to coral death and makes it very difficult for corals to re-colonize the area.

Special attractions at the Arboretum include the Children's Garden, a Wildlife Viewing area in the Native Kentucky Prairie, and a new Woodland Walking Trail.

The IAAF World Race Walking Challenge forms the primary seasonal competition – athletes earn points for their performances at ten selected racewalking competitions and the highest scoring walkers are entered into that year's IAAF Race Walking Challenge Final.

It is the premier event for the Tennessee Walking Horse, during which the breed's World Grand Champion and some 20 World Champions are named.

There are the Bambinilauf ( 500 m ), Schülerläufe ( 2 km for schoolchildren ), Volkslauf ( 5 km for the general public ), Hauptlauf ( the “ main ” walk of 10 km ) and Nordic Walking ( 9 km ) which draw up to 800 participants, making it the biggest walking event in South Westphalia.
