Record producer Lenny Waronker is Simon's son.

He is the son of record producer Lenny Waronker and singer / actress Donna Loren ; his younger sister is musician Anna Waronker ; and his grandfather is record executive and professional violinist Simon Waronker.

According to a 1960 promotional EP designed and distributed by Liberty Records for Liberty shareholders, David Seville ( of Chipmunks fame ), a composer / producer on Liberty, told Julie London that the term " exotica " was coined by Simon " Si " Waronker, Liberty Records co-founder and, at the time, board chairman.

In 1955 Waronker wanted to find a term that would capture the spirit, and also perhaps, help to sell such music as was in Liberty's best interest, considering they had just signed Martin Denny, who was producing and recording this kind of exotic music for his first album with Liberty.

Seville named The Chipmunks ( Alvin, Simon, and Theodore ) after Liberty Records executives Alvin Bennett, Simon Waronker, and Theodore Keep, respectively.

In 1963, facing health problems, Waronker sold his interest in Liberty to the electronics firm Avnet.

In 1966 he was persuaded by producer Lenny Waronker to switch to Warner Bros. Records.

Waronker had been hired to produce The Tikis, the Beau Brummels, and The Mojo Men, who were all contracted to the Los Angeles independent label Autumn Records, and he in turn brought in Newman, Leon Russell and another friend, pianist / arranger Van Dyke Parks, to play on recording sessions.

Later in 1966 Waronker was hired as an A & R manager by Warner Bros. Records and his friendship with Newman, Russell, and Parks began a creative circle around Waronker at Warner Bros that became one of the keys to Warner Bros ' subsequent success as a rock music label.

In the summer of 1987 Warner Bros. Records chairman Mo Ostin and label president Lenny Waronker announced the reactivation of Reprise, including its own separate promotions department, and former Warner Bros. Vice President of Promotion Rich Fitzgerald was appointed as label Vice-President.

The recordings came to the attention of Lenny Waronker, producer and executive at Warner Bros. Records.

Anna Waronker has contributed music to soundtracks and released her solo debut album, Anna, in 2002 on her own Five Foot Two Records label ; she released her second solo album, California Fade, in 2011.

Together they became the foundation of the creative circle that centred on Waronker at Warner Bros. and which, with Ostin's continuing support, became the catalyst for Warner Records ' subsequent success as a rock music label.

Initially, Waronker looked after the acts that Warner Bros. took over when they bought Autumn Records for $ 10, 000, but during the year he also avidly pursued rising Los Angeles band Buffalo Springfield although, much to his and Ostin's chagrin, the band was ultimately signed by Atlantic Records, which was soon to be purchased by Warner Bros. Records.

Under the guidance of Edward West, Vice-President of Warner Bros. Records Inc in 1973 and its executives, A & R managers and staff producers, including Mo Ostin, Stan Cornyn, Lenny Waronker, Andy Wickham, Russ Titelman and ex-Warner Bros. recording artist ( with Harpers Bizarre ) Ted Templeman, sales grew streadily throughout the 1970s and by the end of the decade it had become one of the world's leading rock labels, with a star-studded roster that included Curved Air, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, Van Morrison, America, Alice Cooper, Van Halen, The Doobie Brothers, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, Seals & Crofts, Labelle and Rickie Lee Jones.

Waronker was replaced by ex Atlantic Records president Danny Goldberg, but his tenure proved short.

The label was presided over by Lenny Waronker and Mo Ostin, who had run Warner Bros. Records until the mid-1990s.

Issues with support levels and label restructuring at Universal Records prompted Imperial Teen to switch to Merge Records for the 2002 release of their third album, On, which was produced by Steve McDonald ( again ) and Anna Waronker ( of that dog.

Recording continued a few months later as a result of increasing record company interest, and band had session drummers fill in, including Joey Waronker of R. E. M.

In 2004, Waronker and " Oligee " left the band, and Meldal-Johnsen followed in 2005, with former Oleander drummer Scott Devours, Tim Anderson's cousin whom he had never met before Devours auditioned, taking over drumming duties ; Filip Nikolic taking over on bass ; and Andy Marlow taking over on keyboards.

It was later announced that he has established an unnamed band with Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joey Waronker of R. E. M., Mauro Refosco of Forro in the Dark and producer Nigel Godrich.

It includes Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers on bass, Beck, R. E. M., all-round session drummer Joey Waronker, percussionist Mauro Refosco of the musical collective Forro in the Dark and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich on keyboards and treatments.

Another significant development in the label's history came in 1966 when Ostin hired young independent producer Lenny Waronker as an A & R manager, beginning a strong and enduring mentor / protege relationship between the two.
