The Werribee International Horse Centre at Werribee racecourse is the Victorian quarantine station for international horses competing in the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

The Werribee Campus is located in the Werribee agricultural research / tertiary education precinct in two diagonally adjacent sections spread over 16 hectares.

Werribee Gorge State Park is a state park in Victoria, Australia.

The main and striking feature of this wonderful park, Werribee Gorge, in which the Werribee River meanders through, is certainly acquired world-wide fame throughout the last century for its geological value.

Werribee Gorge State Park is about 8 km west of Bacchus Marsh and can be approached by two routes.

Salt marshes in the northwestern sections of the bay, such as that in the Werribee Sewage Farm and the adjacent Spit Nature Conservation Reserve, are within the Port Phillip Bay ( Western Shoreline ) and Bellarine Peninsula Ramsar Site, listed as wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, and the critically endangered Orange-bellied Parrot is found at three wintering sites with saltmarsh habitat around Port Phillip and the Bellarine Peninsula.

The area between Geelong and Werribee is the driest part of southern Victoria: the crest of the Otway Ranges receives of rain per year and has myrtle beech rainforests much further west than anywhere else, whilst the area around Little River receives as little as annually, which is as little as Nhill or Longreach and supports only grassland.

The pedestrian subway was filled in post-closure, but the island platform still exists adjacent to the Millers Road overpass in Altona, and is visible from passing Geelong V / Line trains, and from suburban Werribee services, most of which ceased running on the loop through Altona in May 2011.

The shire was formed in 1994 by the amalgamation of the Shire of Bacchus Marsh, Shire of Ballan and parts of Shire of Bungaree and the City of Werribee.

The town grew steadily, helped by a railway line from Melbourne to Geelong, with a station at Werribee in 1857.

Between 1860 and 1890, Werribee had two epicentres, the township and Werribee Park Mansion, owned by Chirnside.

Previously Werribee was only served by less frequent diesel trains.

The City of Wyndham and surrounding areas are serviced by the Werribee Mercy Hospital, which opened in 1994 to replace the now defunct Werribee District Hospital.

Provided by a number of university and TAFE campuses, which are all located in the Werribee Employment Precinct-a large area between the Princes Highway and Freeway.

Heritage registered houses include Como House ( 1847 ), one of Melbourne's earliest mansions on its large estate on Williams Road, now owned by the National Trust and known for its long association with the Armytage family, Richmond House ( 1859 ), in Avoca Street, formerly home to Sir Rupert Clarke Bt, Barwon ( 1881 ) and Airlie House on Domain Road, once the townhouse of the Chirnside family of Werribee Park fame, which now serves as a leadership college for Victoria Police.

The platform is still in reasonably good condition but is not serviced by electrification which ends east of the Werribee Street level crossing ( about 1 km short ).

The Werribee line is the suburban portion of the Port Fairy railway used by regional services to Geelong and Warrnambool, apart from a deviation from the main line through Altona.

Automatic Block Signalling applies to Newport South ( beside the Champion Road level crossing ), and from Newport South through to Werribee ( and all the way to Geelong ), the line is controlled by Automatic and Track Control safeworking via Westona and the main lines.

Duplication of the Werribee line occurred in the 1960s, the first section being between a crossing loop named Rock Loop and Laverton in May 1965, followed by Newport B Box to Rock Loop in October 1967, and Laverton to Werribee in September 1968.

In April 1985, Altona to Westona, which had temporarily been operated by Staff and Ticket safeworking, was converted to Automatic and Track Control, and a few days later, the line was extended to Laverton on the Werribee line.

The line officially opened in January 1859, but the section between the vicinity of the Newport workshops and Williamstown Pier was in use by Geelong-line trains from October 1857 ( see the history of the Werribee line for more information ).

The station is serviced by all trains on the Williamstown line, but skipped by express services on the Werribee line and all Geelong V / Line services.

The suburb is bounded to the north by the Geelong railway line, to the west by the Altona branch of the Werribee railway line, to the east by Champion Road and to the south by Kororoit Creek Road.

The change impacted Werribee in several ways.

There are several schools in Truganina, including Westbourne Grammar School and the Islamic Schools of Victoria Werribee.

Farmland around Werribee was subdivided to form new suburbs, mostly north of the railway line.

However this is changing due to the urban sprawl coming from nearby suburbs, such as Hoppers Crossing and Werribee, mostly happening in the southern part of Tarneit.

Partly as a result of the increasing difficulty of traveling across the city, the central business centre declined, and satellite suburbs such as Frankston, Dandenong and Ringwood, and further out Melton, Sunbury and Werribee, became centres of manufacturing, retailing and administration.

An extensive bus network links Werribee with neighbouring suburbs, with major bus interchanges at Werribee Station, Werribee Plaza and Hoppers Crossing Station.

Kensington is serviced by three railway stations ; Kensington, on the Craigieburn railway line to the north-western suburbs, South Kensington, on the three lines serving the western suburbs ( The Sydenham, Werribee and Williamstown lines ) and Macaulay, on the Upfield Line, serving the northern suburbs.

Under changes made to Local Government legislation, it became the Shire of Wyndham on 7 March 1864 and was renamed the Shire of Werribee on 15 December 1909.

After 85 years of being known as Werribee, the area's former name of Wyndham was restored.

Directly south west of Point Cook, in Werribee South, will be the new development of the Wyndham Harbour Marina.

It was established as an agricultural settlement in the 1850s, originally named Wyndham and was renamed Werribee ( derived from the aboriginal name meaning " backbone " or " spine ") in 1904.

The Post Office opened on 12 January 1858 as Wyndham and was renamed Werribee in 1904.

The Tarneit link will provide an alternative rail corridor for Werribee line passengers with up to 6 proposed new Stations at Black Forest, Wyndham Vale, Sayers, Chartwell, Tarneit & Truganina.
