The most important Canadian theorist was an American immigrant, Henry Wise Wood, president of the United Farmers of Alberta ( UFA ) during that movement's time as the governing party of the province ( 1921 – 1935 ).

Gordon Muriel Flowerdew ( 2 January 1885 – 31 March 1918 ) was a Canadian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces, received for his actions at the Battle of Moreuil Wood.

The Fifth and Sixth Marine Regiments were awarded the French Fourragère for their actions at Belleau Wood.

In 1968 Wood was awarded the Wiener Medal for Cybernetics from the American Society for Cybernetics.

For his actions Corporal Wood was awarded the Victoria Cross, the last VC won by the regiment during the First World War.

The Turk's head knot is used as a woggle by Scout Leaders who completed their training course and were thus awarded with the Wood Badge insignia.
