YSU has approximately 2, 100 full and part-time employees, and 426 full-time faculty with 543 part-time faculty.

YSU has five postdoctoral research stations, six disciplines of 35 subdisciplines conferring doctoral degrees, 13 disciplines of 80 subdisciplines conferring master degrees, 16 masters of engineering programs, one Master of Public Administration ( MPA ) program, one Master of Business Administration ( MBA ) program, as well as 60 undergraduate programs.

With such a wide range of programs, YSU has become a multiversity with emphasis laid on engineering studies and importance attached to liberal arts, sciences, economics, management, law and education.

YSU Faculty of Sociology has established cooperation with the RA Ministry of Labor and Social Issues.

Being one of the youngest structures of YSU, Faculty of Journalism has got some significant advantages owing to its policy in the area of training process.

YSU runs five national key disciplines, four key disciplines of national defense, thirteen key provincial disciplines, one key national laboratory, thirteen key provincial laboratories and engineering centers.

Currently scientific-research activities are undertaken within the framework of 13 international grants ( with the total financing of 1. 5 million dollars ) and 15 projects on budgetary financing ( 25 % of budgetary themes and scientific positions of YSU ).

The YSU Faculty of Law, as an educational and scientific institution, effectively co-operates both with local and foreign scientific centers and institutions, in particular, with the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of the RA, the Center of Constitutional Law, the Scientific and Educational Center of the General Prosecutor's Office of RA, a number of leading law schools of Russian Federation, Europe and the USA, as well as with some authoritative international organizations, including UN Representative Office in RA, United States Agency of International Development ( USAID ), American Bar Association ( ABA ), Open Society Institute ( OSI ), etc.

Historians have been trained in YSU since the day of its foundation.

YSU offers the lowest tuition of any public institution of higher learning in Ohio, and its campus was reported to be among the safest in the state in 1996.

YSU operates several Centers of Excellence and designated research and economic development programs, including the Center for Transportation and Materials Engineering, the Center of Excellence in Materials Science and Engineering, the Center of Excellence in International Business, the Center for Applied Chemical Biology, the Institute for Applied Topology, and effective in 2012, the Natural Gas and Water Resources Institute.

Along with former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Cliff Stoudt ( inducted 1987 & Jaworski's successor on the football team, though playing for the Cardinals at this point ) and recently-retired St. Louis Rams kicker Jeff Wilkins ( inducted in 2003 ), Jaworski is one of only three former YSU football players to be inducted while still active in the NFL.

The educational process in the YSU Faculty of Law, as in the whole University, consists of three levels: Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree and Post-Graduate Degree ( Aspirantura ).

Starting in 1985, it began to relocate southward to the historic seaside city of Qinhuangdao in Hebei Province and completed the migration in 1997 when it was accredited by the former State Education Commission to adopt the present name of Yanshan University ( YSU ).

While still playing for the Eagles in 1986, Jaworski was inducted into the YSU Sports Hall of Fame at his collegiate alma-mater, Youngstown State University.

Over different periods of time it used to exist as an Academic Division at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Pedagogical Faculty of YSU under following names: Sub department of Biology, Department of Biology and Cycle of Biology.

The training of specialists in the area of mathematics was launched in YSU in 1924 at the Department of Physics and Mathematics of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The training of economists with higher education began at YSU in 1921 at the Faculty of Soviet Construction ( later at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Social-Economic and Faculty of Economics ).

YSU joined the Ohio system of higher education in 1967.

Once regarded as a commuter school, YSU serves about 13, 000 students, many from outside the Youngstown area.

The Clarence R. Smith Mineral Museum, also located on the YSU campus, is operated by the university's geology department and housed in a campus building.

To the immediate north of YSU is the Arms Family Museum of Local History.

Located just south of the YSU campus is the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, which sits on a grade overlooking the downtown area.

Area between Jones Hall and Maag Library ( on right ) YSU is primarily a commuter school, with most students living at home or in residence off campus, but approximately 1, 000 students live in residence halls on campus.

YSU is currently trying to get more students to live on campus, with initiatives such as mandatory on-campus housing for students in the Leslie H. Cochran University Scholars program, which is Youngstown State's full ride academic scholarship program.

YSU is participating in the Youngstown Early College program, through which students from the Youngstown City School District can take courses for college credit while in high school.

YSU is currently phasing out its affiliation with Youngstown Early College, with Eastern Gateway Community College taking over full operations away from YSU by 2013.

Labor Unions are very active at YSU and include most non-administrative faculty and staff on campus.

Following the conclusion of the strike, relations have remained strained, with some faculty and staff calling for resignation of YSU President David Sweet in May 2007.

In 1986, YSU named its new technology center Meshel Hall in his honor, as he helped secure funding for the project.
