Holt Park has bus services operated by First Leeds ( formerly Yorkshire Rider ), particularly Route 1 " Brown Line " which runs from the shopping centre, through Weetwood, Headingley, Leeds University, Leeds city centre and terminates in the South Leeds area of Beeston.

Leeds and Bradford passed to Rider Group on 13 August 1989, which owned Yorkshire Rider ( now First Leeds ), while the remaining four depots became York City & District, Yorkshire Coastliner, Harrogate & District and Keighley & District respectively.

The biggest customer, however, was Yorkshire Rider, which bought 55 with Alexander Strider bodies in 1993 and 1994.

The WYPTE bus division was renamed Yorkshire Rider and with it a new livery of dark olive green and cream was used and a stylised " YR " emblem, five double-decker buses were operated in each of the municipal council's colours ( already included were the two Huddersfield buses ), with words on the sides between the decks saying " Building on a Great Tradition ".

Yorkshire Rider was privatised in October 1988, the first PTE to be privatised, during this time 50 new double-dckers arrived, 25 MCW Metrobuses and 25 low-height Northern Counties Leyland Olympians, which featured yet again another interior decor change, with two tone grey panels, and a new moquette being two tone grey and pink with YR emblems on.

The publicly owned but arms-length company Yorkshire Rider, as successor to the WYPTE bus fleet, also took early vehicles.

Five went to WYPTE, and five to its successor Yorkshire Rider, and a further five standard seated Olympians were also delivered to WYPTE, two as convertible open top buses.

Of the very early vehicles, three Dominos are owned by a private owner in Sheffield, of the early WYPTE vehicles, an Olympian, Cub, Delta, Sherpa and Star Rider are preserved by Transport Yorkshire Preservation Group and a number of CityPacers ( including Yorkshire Rider 1700 D901MWR ) and MetroRiders have been saved including an ex-Cardiff example N143PTG by the Cardiff Transport Preservation Group.

In the post deregulation period Northern Counties had to broaden their customer base and therefore attracted orders for Olympian from a variety of customers including Atlas Bus, Badgerline, Blazefield Group, Borehamwood Travel Services ( BTS ), Boro ' line Maidstone, Bristol City Line, Busways Travel Services Ltd., Cambus Ltd, Capital Citybus / Ensignbus, Chester City Transport, County Bus & Coach, East Kent, East Yorkshire Motor Services, Eastbourne Buses, Eastern Counties, Fareway Passenger Services Ltd, Isle of Man Transport, Kentish Bus ( Proudmutal Group ), London Buses ( Bexleybus ), London Buslines, Maidstone & District, Merseybus, Nottingham City Transport, OK Motor Services, Preston Bus, South Notts Bus Company, South Yorkshire Road Transport, Stagecoach and Yorkshire Rider.

The route and Ormskirk station opened on 2 April 1849, the undertaking being merged into the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway on 13 May 1859.

South Yorkshire is an amalgamation of 32 former local government districts from the former administrative counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, the West Riding of Yorkshire, and four independent county boroughs.

In 1974, following the Local Government Act 1972, the former area of Ripon borough was merged with Harrogate borough and several rural districts of the West Riding to form an enlarged Harrogate borough in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire.

An extensive bus service is provided by several operators under the guidance of the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive.

Buses go to Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and other West Yorkshire towns from bus stops in the vicinity of the Town Hall.

Baildon is served by the West Yorkshire Metro 624 – 627, 649, and 656 – 659 First bus services.

The village is served by one regular local bus service from York, run by First Group, by the Yorkshire Coastliner service, and by a service run by Harrogate Coach Travel as part of the York to Colton route.

Stagecoach Yorkshire run most bus services within Barnsley, operating to and from Barnsley Interchange.

The nearest railway stations are in the villages of Ulleskelf and Church Fenton, but the most convenient station is York as it has a much wider range of services and is connected to Tadcaster by a fairly frequent Yorkshire Coastliner bus service running from outside the railway station.

All that is specified is that it is in a town or city in the north of England that is home to a redbrick university, following a few references to the fact: the River Humber is mentioned in one episode as is the seaside resort of Cleethorpes, and Alan says he commutes via Yorkshire Traction, a former bus company which operated in South and West Yorkshire, particularly around Barnsley, and when Rigsby purchases a car in the episode ‘ Clunk Click ’, the registration plate ( XCX 885J ) shows that the car was registered in Huddersfield.
