Yoshi has a variety of abilities that render him unique amongst other characters in the Mario series.

Yoshi has appeared in nearly all of the Mario sports and spin-off games.

Gametrailers has created a special tribute video for Yoshi for the release of Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Although Yoshi can take numerous hits so long as the timer hasn't counted down, certain situations, such as landing on lava or falling down a bottomless pit, will instantly cause Yoshi to lose a life regardless of how much time he has left.

The cast is made up of the same characters from Mario Kart 64 ( Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Wario and Toad ).

The version of Yoshi seen in the Super Mario Bros. film was made using a animatronic dinosaur.

Yoshi made his debut in Super Mario World as a native dinosaur that Mario or Luigi could ride on in order to eat enemies and otherwise navigate Dinosaur Land more quickly and easily.

Yoshi made a cameo appearance in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest as one of the competiters in Cranky's Video Game Heroes show.

In Snake Eater 3D, Yoshi dolls replaces all the cartoon-like frogs, Kerotans, which that appear in all other versions of Metal Gear Solid 3.

Similar to Super Mario World, Yoshi can grab enemies with his tongue and can spit them out at other enemies.

For instance, the light blue Yoshi will be in favour of swallowing blue Shy Guys, which in turn will yield 3 points, while any other colour variation of the enemy will only yield 1 point.

IGN editor Lucas M. Thomas commented in his article about Yoshi that Birdo " almost worthy of a whole other article ", stating that she is " the most gender-confused character in the history of Nintendo ".

By recovering the stars and defeating bosses, Yoshi acquires keys to other areas of the castle and rooms holding his friends captive.

The multiplayer mode uses the wireless Download Play option to allow two to four players compete against each other using Yoshi ( voiced by Kazumi Totaka )— character hats appear in the stage allowing players to transform into either Mario, Luigi, or Wario.

In the original version of the tale, he was Hamato Yoshi's pet and is referred to as Goober, and in the other, he is Hamato Yoshi.

Also, Yoshi becomes a rat, whereas in most other versions, he is Yoshi's pet rat that becomes humanoid.
