Yugi's voice changes – in the manga, when the transformation happens in the presence of Anzu Mazaki ( Téa Gardner in the English dub ), who had her eyes closed at the time, the Pharaoh's voice was so different that she did not realize that Yugi was the speaker.

A new transfer student to Domino High School, Bakura quickly acquires an array of romantic admirers, and befriends Yugi Mutou ( Yugi Moto in the English anime ), Katsuya Jonouchi ( Joey Wheeler ), Hiroto Honda ( Tristan Taylor ) and Anzu Mazaki ( Téa Gardner ) and invites them to join him in playing his favourite game, the RPG " Monster World " ( a parody of Dungeons and Dragons ).

Tenma kidnaps Anzu Mazaki ( Téa Gardner in the English anime ), prompting Yugi and his friend Katsuya Jonouchi ( Joey Wheeler in the English anime ) to face Tenma's RA Project ( RA stands for " Rebirth of an Avatar ") and the duel professors.

After Yugi wins her star chips back from Panik, an eliminator who kidnapped and strong-armed her into dueling, she has a change of heart and begins to consider Yugi, Joey, Téa Gardner and Tristan Taylor as friends.

Téa challenges Mai to a duel after Yugi refuses to respond to her kind gesture. Following Yugi ’ s defeat to Kaiba, she appears at the castle with enough star chips to qualify as a finalist.

The Yugi storyline involves Yugi, as well as Joey, Tristan Taylor ( Hiroto Honda in the English manga and Japanese versions ), and Téa Gardner ( Anzu Mazaki in the English manga and Japanese versions ) being invited to the testing of the virtual reality game " Kingdom ," created by the company SIC.

Encouraged by the vision, Yugi manages to defeat Kaiba and go on to the final battle against Marik.

However, because Jaden says after the duel that he still has a long way to go, it is implied that Yugi won the duel.

However, he sets a trap in the museum so that when Dark Yugi holds the Egyptian God Cards in front of the tablet and reawakens his memories, his soul is transported to a table with a tabletop RPG powered by the memories set on top.

The story takes place between the Battle City and Egypt arcs where Yugi and his friends must stop a man named Yako Tenma who plans to use Anzu Mazaki's body to revive Maximillion Pegasus.

In the 4kids dub, Yugi's thoughts while under the Pharaoh's control have the voice of Yugi himself instead of the Pharaoh ( with the exception of the Doma Orichalcos arc, where Yugi's soul is captured ), while in the Japanese dub ( as well as the uncut English dub ), the voice retains that of the current host.

Takahashi collaborated with Yoshio Sawai by drawing a picture of Yugi for Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, where he pops out of Bobobo's afro at one point.

In this series, compelled by his Millennium Ring to do so, Bakura stowed away on the boat heading for the Duelist Kingdom, where he eventually met with Yugi and his friends.

She drives them to the pier, where Yugi and a possessed Joey are dueling, Tea is trapped in a dangerous predicament, and Kaiba and Mokuba are bystanders.

At one point in the Yugi storyline, Joey, Tea, and Bakura are all brainwashed, and the player must fight against Tea once, Joey twice, and Bakura once in a kind of race, where the player must get to a town before Yami Bakura does, or the level is automatically lost.

The game also includes a Challenge Mode consisting entirely of battles, where the player has to fight various characters from the campaign, such as Joey, Kaiba, and Yugi.

The Pyramid's powers were draining the lifeforces of Yugi and Kaiba as the duel progressed, eventually resurrecting Anubis, who dispatched Kaiba and took his place in the duel.

When Anzu's soul is taken into the Millennium Puzzle by Anubis, she manages to resist him temporarily and breaks into the Pyramid of Light to try to convince Yugi and Kaiba to stop their duel.

At the same time, Yugi Mutou completes Atem's Millennium Puzzle, causing Anubis to awaken from his eternal slumber and begin his return from the dead.

Anubis ' spirit attacks the group with Yugi having a vision of the Lord of the Dead manipulating Kaiba and him a Shadow Game deathmatch.

Kaiba arrogantly and ignorantly forces Yami Yugi into a duel, unaware that Anubis is manipulating him into using one of the two new cards, Pyramid of Light, which covers the field in a huge replica of the actual pyramid and destroys the God Cards.

Yugi, Joey and Tristan awaken within the Millennium Puzzle, finding Anubis ' tomb within.

Yugi finds the Dagger of Fate within Anubis ' tomb, and uses it to destroy the all-seeing eye in the tomb as per the prophecy.

Yami, reunited with Yugi, destroys the Pyramid of Light card with the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon and then uses Kaiba's planned strategy to summon the God Cards and end the duel by destroying Anubis.

This proves to be his undoing when Yugi and Yami summon the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon to destroy Anubis.

Kaiba proceeded to challenge Yugi to yet another duel in his Duel Dome, and put the first of the two cards into play – the enigmatic " Pyramid of Light ," which prevented the Egyptian God Cards from participating in the battle.

During the battle, the Pharaoh learns his true name ,( with the help of Yugi, Tea, Joey, and Tristan ) Atem ( which is the secret key to unlocking the Pharaoh's memory ), and merges the Gods together into their ultimate form, The Creator of Light – Horakhty.

The original Japanese character names are kept for most of the characters ( Yugi, Jonouchi, Anzu, and Honda, for instance ), while the English names are used for a minor number of characters ( e. g. Maximillion Pegasus ) and for the Duel Monsters cards.

Despite this, he still often helps them with defeating the villains they face, claiming that Yugi or one of his friends helped him and he owes them, or that the villain's desires are in direct conflict with his own interests.

Pegasus captures Kaiba's soul, but when Yugi beats him in the final round of the tournament, the Kaiba brothers are both freed.

Afterward, Yugi, Kaiba and Joey enter the finals, unaware that Marik has made a deal with Yami Bakura, and he, along with Marik and Marik's stepbrother Odion, are registered as well.

He is also briefly shown while Pegasus was telling Aster Phoenix who his favourite top 5 duelists are with Yugi first and Kaiba being the second.

When Jaden's skills are proven to Yugi, Atem decides to take control and use the Egyptian God cards.

He uses the God cards in his final duel against Yugi, and they are sent to the afterlife with him at the end of the original Yu-Gi-Oh!

In the Duel Monsters anime, she and Honda are basically cheerleaders for Yugi and Jonouchi whenever they duel, but she has proven herself adept at dueling as well, and usually keeps up with the going-ons of a duel.

While responding to a fan mail asking him why Yugi and Anzu are not in a romantic relationship, Takahashi stated that the relationship between Anzu and Yugi is " pretty much a love triangle.

In all incarnations, Dark Bakura is able to mimic his host's voice and speech patterns to avoid detection when possessing him so Yugi and the others think they are talking to the good Bakura ( Ryo ).

In the anime, Dark Bakura reveals to Dark Yugi that he is, in fact, Zorc and the two of them are transported into the RPG itself, inhabiting their respective bodies ( this never occurs in the manga ).

Yugi and his friends arrive and are able to reveal the Pharaoh's true name: Atem.

The show's focal antagonists and their endeavors are fronted by Yugi, a mysterious girl who is prominently seen above the skies of Japan amid a palace of crystal.

While her motives are not revealed until toward the end of the series, Yugi has a noticeable grudge against the Masaki family and delights in troubling them.

On volume 2 of the manga Yu-Gi-Oh !, when asked to slide one's foot inside a shoe with a scorpion, Yugi, Jonouchi, and Honda respond, " Who do you think we are, the Tokyo Shock Boys?

These are used by several antagonists in the anime to turn her against Yugi and his friends.

Yugi, Joey and Tristan are sucked into the pyramid whilst Mokuba flees the crumbling building.

) Joey later quotes Brando a second time by repeating his famous line " I could've been a contender ," after he and Tristan are literally run over by the crowd as it runs after Yugi hoping to Duel him.

He and Yami Yugi are able to give Stardust Dragon the power to defeat Sin Truth Dragon and defeat Paradox.
