Probably the main reason hostilities were avoided was when Japanese Prime Minister Zenko Suzuki warned United States Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger that “ good relations between China and the United States must continue if the Asian Pacific region were to remain stable and unified against Soviet Military Power .” ( Tow, 1983, p. 53 ).

After Ohira died in 1980, the Tanaka faction elected Zenko Suzuki.

The Bujinkan school claims that Takamatsu's grandfather was a samurai and a direct descendant of the founder of Gyokko Ryu ( and that the Gikan-ryū was passed to Takamatsu through another source ).

From 1968 and onwards, the Bugei Ryuha Daijiten has entries bearing the name of Hatsumi below his teacher Takamatsu for the following school entries: Gyokko-ryū Kosshi jutsu, Kukishinden Ryu, Kotō-ryū Koppōjutsu, Shinden Fudō-ryū Dakentai jutsu, Takagi Yōshin-ryū Jūtai jutsu, Gikan-ryū Koppō jutsu, Gyokushin-ryū Ninpō and Kumogakure-ryū Ninpō.

The earliest known mention of a school teaching shurikenjutsu is Ganritsu Ryu, prevalent during the 17th century.

Although associated with considerably smaller numbers of practitioners, a number of " koryu bujutsu " systems ( old school martial arts ) which include older and more combative forms of naginatajutsu remain existent, including Suio Ryu, Araki Ryu, Tendo Ryu, Jikishinkage ryu, Higo Koryu, Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu, Toda-ha Buko Ryu and Yoshin ryu, some of which have authorized representatives outside Japan.

The five-finger glove, called a morogake is used almost exclusively by Ogasawara Ryu practitioners, and is not typically used in competition or by any other school.

When referring to such books, it refers to " Niten No Ichi Ryu " or " Ni Ten Ichi Ryu ", which means, when literally translated, " Two heaven, one school ", although many could see the translation as " Two Swords, One spirit ", or " Two Swords, One Entity ".

Today, his Kaito Gakko school, aloha and teachings are carried on by his wife Lillian Nu ' uhiwa ; and direct lineage students: Judan Bruce Keaulani of ' Kaiti Gokku Nuuhiwa Ryu ' in Oahu, Hawaii, 7th dan Kalani Akui, Carlos Gallegos, Wendell Wong, Hector Zaragosa, Jeff Osthus, Rudy Cuevas, Raime Keanaaina, and Kelii Keanaaina.

* In manga, Hiroyuki Takei's Shaman King, Ryu possesses a wooden sword and uses it as his main weapon, and for that reason he is also known as Bokuto no Ryu ( Wooden Sword Ryu ).

The series is notable for its recurring characters and ambiguous continuity ; though each game is its own self-contained story, the names of the two lead characters are, invariably, Ryu and Nina.

The main stance of naihanchi is a slight variant from the Isshin Ryu stance " kiba-dachi ," in which both feet are shoulder width apart facing forward.

Also, Wansu is one of two kata in Isshin Ryu which use the " zenkutsu dachi ", a long, angled seisan-type stance.

Sunsu is the only kata that is only in Isshin Ryu.
