Penguins have been the subject of many books and films such as Happy Feet, Surf's Up and The Penguins of Madagascar, all CGI films ; March of the Penguins, a documentary based on the migration process of the Emperor Penguin ; and a parody titled Farce of the Penguins.

Entertainment Weekly put it on its end-of-the-decade, " best-of " list, saying, " Whether they were walking ( March of the Penguins ), dancing ( Happy Feet ), or hanging ten ( Surf's Up ), these oddly adorable birds took flight at the box office all decade long.

He also voiced the character Big Z in the animated picture Surf's Up.

The pair collaborated closely on " Heroes and Villains ", " Surf's Up ", " Wonderful ", " Vegetables " and " Mrs. O Leary's Cow " and Wilson recorded backing tracks, largely with session musicians, through the winter.

Wilson played and sang on much of the 1971 Surf's Up album and wrote or co-wrote four of the album's ten songs, including the title track, which was a Carl Wilson-produced rerecording of the legendary 1966 SMiLE track.

Borat is a successful film from the 2000s which uses this style, and the 2007 film, Surf's Up, is an example of an animated mockumentary.

Two other key songs written and recorded for SMiLE -- " Cabin Essence " and " Surf's Up " -- were compiled by Carl Wilson and included on the 20 / 20 and Surf's Up LPs in more or less the same form as Wilson had intended them for SMiLE, while the song " Cool Cool Water " ( an extended track built around the SMiLE fragment " I love to say Dada ") later appeared on the Sunflower album.

After that, he released two solo projects ; the EP, Surf's Up!

He also plays the horns on 311's cover of the Toots & the Maytals song " Reggae Got Soul ", recorded for the Surf's Up movie soundtrack.

In the movie Surf's Up, he voices the animated otter who recruits surfers and pits them against each other, and he voices the falcon in Stuart Little 2.

An exception to this was during mid 2007, with their inclusion of the previously unreleased song " Into Yesterday " on the Surf's Up movie soundtrack, and a brief tour in Asia in August 2007 where they headlined SingFest, Singapore's first international music festival.
