* At the extreme southern end of the site, Lombe's Silk Mill now houses the Derby Industrial Museum.

Flax, for linen, had been grown in Flaxholme, from the fifteenth century, on the instructions from King Henry V. Silk thread began to be produced in quantity by John Lombe in Derby, likewise cotton thread in Belper.

Derby Silk Mill, formerly known as Derby Industrial Museum, is a museum of industry and history in Derby, England.

The Silk Mill was one of the tourist attractions of Derby and was visited by Boswell in September 1777.

Derby City Council closed the museum on 3 April 2011 in order to free funds for the redevelopment of the Silk Mill museum and other museums in the city.

In December 2001 a 15-mile corridor from Masson Mill in Matlock Bath to the Silk Mill in Derby and including the mills in Cromford, Milford, Belper and Darley Abbey was declared the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.

Following Vignoles's reassessment in 1835 a new route was proposed, either north or south of the Derby Canal to a terminus near St. Mary's Bridge with a branch to Full Street near to John Lombe's Silk Mill.

In June 2009, Bath Street Mill in Derby was damaged by fire.

( Other claims might be made for John Lombe's silk mill in Derby ( 1721 ), or Richard Arkwright's Cromford Mill ( 1772 )— purpose built to fit the equipment it held and taking the material through the various manufacturing processes.

Courses are also run at the Britannia Mill site in Derby and the Chesterfield Centre for health education.

These courses are offered at Roehampton University, University of Derby, Sesame, Anglia Ruskin University, and The School of Dramatherapy at the The Iron Mill Institute.

Although his breeding hinted otherwise, Mill Reef then proved himself to be the outstanding middle distance racehorse of the year, easily winning the Epsom Derby by two lengths from Linden Tree, the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown beating the crack French colt Caro by four lengths and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot by six lengths from the Derby Italiano winner Ortis.

Tuebrook has two secondary schools nearby: Holly Lodge Girls College located on Queens Drive and West Derby School located on Mill Bank.

Slip Anchor was the fifth Epsom Derby winner whose sire ( Shirley Heights ) and paternal grandsire ( Mill Reef ) were themselves winners of Britain's premier classic.

While the team was named Paterson, the team played their games at Doherty Field, located off of Main Avenue behind the Doherty Silk Mill.

The Cedar Cliff Land Company ran newspaper advertisements targeted at upwardly mobile immigrants who worked in Paterson's silk industry, offering the city-sized lots for sale at auctions ( with free lunches and brass bands ) held at St. Mary's Parish Hall, and also opened the Cedar Cliff Silk Mill, which became one of several silk mills in the community.

Joining the woolen mills was the adjacent " Silk Mill.

The University of Waterloo School of Architecture campus in the former Riverside Silk Mill

The University of Waterloo School of Architecture campus is located in Cambridge in the Riverside Silk Mill, also known as the Tiger Brand Building.

By the early part of the 19th century, Govan was rapidly losing its rural appearance and assuming the character of a town with the development of new industries and factories, including Reid's Dye Works and Pollok's Silk Mill.

Both industries have left a permanent mark on the town in the form of the many places with textile related names, for example, Dyer's Wynd, Cotton Street, Thread Street, Shuttle Street, Lawn Street, Silk Street, Mill Street, Gauze Street and Incle Street.

There is a Tesco on London Road, a Co-op on Silk Mill Way and a Marks & Spencer food store in Dolphin Square that opened on 9 October 2007.
