The creation of nearby Lake Meredith also added to the town's economy as an important recreational area.

Lake Meredith lies just outside the city of Fritch and is a main source of water for surrounding communities, though the city actually uses well water drawn from the Ogallala Aquifer for its municipal water supply.

Fritch is located adjacent to the Lake Meredith National Recreation Area offering residents and visitors ample opportunities for outdoor activities including boating, fishing, camping, hiking, and seasonal hunting.

The outlet of Lake Waukewan provided water power sites, and by 1859 Meredith village had a sawmill, gristmill, shingle mill, blacksmith shop, harness-maker's shop and tannery.

Situated at the outlet of Wickwas Lake, Meredith Center had a sawmill, gristmill and blacksmith shop.

Meredith is bounded to the northeast by Lake Winnipesaukee.
