A Roman embassy of Emperor Marcus Aurelius ( r. 161 – 180 CE ) is recorded in the Hou Hanshu to have reached the court of Emperor Huan of Han ( r. 146 – 168 CE ) in 166 CE, yet Rafe de Crespigny asserts that this was most likely a group of Roman merchants.

The Later Han Dynasty Chinese chronicle, the Hou Hanshu, 88 ( covering the period 25 – 220 and completed in the 5th century ), mentioned a report that the steppe land Yancai was now known as Alanliao ( 阿蘭聊 ):

Some say that the Chinese Emperor Wu became interested in developing commercial relationships with the sophisticated urban civilizations of Ferghana, Bactria and Parthian Empire: " The Son of Heaven on hearing all this reasoned thus: Ferghana ( Dayuan ) and the possessions of Bactria ( Ta-Hsia ) and Parthian Empire ( Anxi ) are large countries, full of rare things, with a population living in fixed abodes and given to occupations somewhat identical with those of the Chinese people, but with weak armies, and placing great value on the rich produce of China " ( Hou Hanshu, Later Han History ).

The biography of Dou Xian can be found in Chapter LIII of the Hou Hanshu.

The Hou Hanshu says that “ the language and culture of the Xianbei are the same as the Wuhuan ”.

According to the Hou Hanshu his father Touluhou had been serving in the Southern Xiongnu army for three years.

The fact that the Weishu states the Kumo Xi spoke the same language as the Khitan and that the Hou Hanshu states the Wuhuan spoke the same language as the Xianbei indicate relative linguistic homogeneity within the Xianbei and a common Mongolic identity of the Wuhuan and Xianbei as remnants of the Donghu confederation.

The Book of the Later Han, Hou Hanshu, states that general Ban Chao fought battles near Khotan with a Kushan army of 70, 000 men led by an otherwise unknown Kushan viceroy named Xie ( Chinese: 謝 ) in 90 CE.

Later, the Chinese historical chronicle Hou Hanshu describes the enquiry about Buddhism made around 67 CE by the emperor Emperor Ming ( 58-75 CE ).

The bundle theory of substance thus rejects the substance theories of Aristotle, Descartes, and more recently, J. P. Moreland, Jia Hou, Joseph Bridgman, Quentin Smith, and others.

In 500 BC, Hou Fan — the governor of Hou — revolted against his lord of the Shu family.

Although the Meng and Shu families unsuccessfully besieged Hou, a loyalist official rose up with the people of Hou and forced Hou Fan to flee to the Qi state.

Eventually, after a year and a half, Confucius and his disciples succeeded in convincing the Shu family to raze the walls of Hou, the Ji family in razing the walls of Bi, and the Meng family in razing the walls of Cheng.

However, this school was not one of the " Ten Schools " defined by Hanshu.

Shiji 110 / Hanshu 94A: The Xiongnu: Synopsis of Chinese original Text and several Western Translations with Extant Annotations.

Unlike Hanshu, which was written under the supervision of the Imperial Dynasty, Shiji was a privately written history.

Sima Qian wrote eight rhapsodies ( Fu 賦 ), which are listed in the bibliographic treatise Hanshu.

Early Chinese histories such as Shiji and Hanshu recorded that the Wusun had previously lived near the Yuezhi people in the Qilian and Dunhuang areas in Gansu ( different locations however have been suggested for these toponyms.

According to the Shiji ( c. 123 ) and the Hanshu ( c. 96 ), a daughter from the Han prince, Liu Jian, was sent to the ruler ( kunmo or kunmi ) of the Wusun between 110 BCE and 105 BCE.

The Hanshu and Shiji, which mentioned the Wusun, did not note any unusual ethnic appearance of the Wusun.

A later 7th century commentary to the Hanshu by Yan Shigu says: " Among the various Rong in the Western Regions, the Wusun's shape was the strangest ; and the present barbarians who have green eyes and red hair, and are like macaques, belonged to the same race as the Wusun.

Jae-hoon Shim interprets the following sentence in that section of the Hanshu as claiming that Jizi also introduced the law of " Eight Prohibitions " ( 犯禁八條 ) in Joseon.

This suggests that the story of Jizi's association with Joseon was not necessarily prevailing although the narrative seen in the Hanshu later became common.
