Compositing is the combining of visual elements from separate sources into single images, often to create the illusion that all those elements are parts of the same scene.

A vision mixer ( also called video switcher, video mixer or production switcher ) is a device used to select between several different video sources and in some cases Compositing ( mix ) video sources together to create special effects.

Compositing is also used, with compiz and Beryl compositing window managers being the most prominent examples since 2006.

Brinkmann is also the author of the book, ' The Art and Science of Digital Compositing ' ( ISBN 0-12-133960-2 ).

Compositing window managers often combine the " copying " operation with " compositing " used to position windows, transform them with scale or warping effects, and make portions transparent.
