Francesco Borromini, byname of Francesco Castelli ( 25 September 1599 – 3 August 1667 ), was an architect from Ticino who, with his contemporaries Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Pietro da Cortona, was a leading figure in the emergence of Roman Baroque architecture.

Subsequently the French Celestines, with the consent of the Italian superiors of the order, and of Pope Martin V in 1427, obtained the privilege of making new constitutions for themselves, which they did in the 17th century in a series of regulations accepted by the provincial chapter in 1667.

Pope Alexander VII ( 13 February 1599 – 22 May 1667 ), born Fabio Chigi, was Pope from 7 April 1655, until his death.

He died in 1667, was memorialised in a spectacular tomb by Bernini, and was succeeded by Pope Clement IX ( 1667 – 69 ).

He was the first cardinal secretary of state to be elected Pope since Clement IX in 1667.

Pope Clement IX ( 28 January 1600 – 9 December 1669 ), born Giulio Rospigliosi, was Pope from 1667 to 1669.

After Alexander VII's death in 1667, an 18-day papal conclave concluded with Rospigliosi's election as Pope.

Pope Clement IX ( 1667 – 69 ) named him Superintendent of the Papal Exchequer ( in charge of the Church's finances ), and in 1667 his maestro di camera, and he was made Secretary of the Congregation of Bishops and Regulars.

Odescalchi was a strong papal candidate after the death of Pope Clement IX ( 1667 – 69 ) in 1669, but the French government rejected him ( using the now-abolished veto ).

At the time of Pope Alexander VII ( 1655 – 1667 ), new public works were initiated, including the road that leads up to the Palazzolo paralleling the crags of the Lake Albano, called in ancient Via Alessandrina.

The open space which lies before the basilica was redesigned by Gian Lorenzo Bernini from 1656 to 1667, under the direction of Pope Alexander VII, as an appropriate forecourt, designed " so that the greatest number of people could see the Pope give his blessing, either from the middle of the façade of the church or from a window in the Vatican Palace " ( Norwich 1975 p 175 ).

The Alessandrina University Library ( Biblioteca Universitaria Alessandrina ), built in 1667 by Pope Alexander VII, is the main library housing 1. 5 million volumes ; it has some important collections including collezione ciceroniana, Fondo Festa, etc.

However, before this committee acted, Alexander VII died on May 22, 1667.
