Despite the only French naval victory ( during the Napoleonic Wars ) of Battle of Grand Port on 19 and 20 August 1810 by a fleet commanded by Pierre Bouvet, Mauritius was captured on 3 December 1810 by the British under Commodore Josias Rowley.

He was rewarded on January 31, 1810 with a second, now princely victory title, Prince d ' Essling, for his efforts there and in the Battle of Wagram.

After the Battle of Monte de las Cruces on 30 October 1810, Hidalgo still had about 100, 000 insurgents and was in a strategic position to attack Mexico City.

This was Britain's first naval defeat since the Battle of Lake Champlain in the War of 1812 and the first of a British naval squadron since the Battle of Grand Port in 1810.

The Battle of Fuengirola took place in the area during the Peninsular War, on October 15, 1810, when approximately 200 Polish soldiers of the Duchy of Warsaw defeated a mixed British-Spanish force numbering some 3, 000 soldiers under Lord Blayney.

It returned to Portugal in 1810 with the 5th Division, fighting at the Battle of Buçaco ( 1810 ), the Battle of Fuentes de Onoro ( 1811 ), the battles of Badajoz, Salamanca and Burgos ( 1812 ), the Battle of Vitoria, capture of San Sebastián, Battle of Nivelle, and the Battle of Nive ( 1813 ), before advancing into France in 1814.

Einhard and his wife were originally buried in one sarcophagus in the choir of the church in Seligenstadt, but in 1810 the sarcophagus was presented by the Grand Duke of Hesse to the count of Erbach, who claims descent from Einhard as the husband of Imma, the reputed daughter of Charlemagne.
