Lewis and Clark expedition co-leader William Clark produced a map based on the previous expedition and included the explorations of John Colter in 1807, apparently based on discussions between Clark and Colter when the two met in St. Louis, Missouri in 1810.

Louis abdicated on July 2, 1810 in favor of his son Napoleon Louis Bonaparte, who reigned for ten days.

The Kingdom of Holland 1806 – 1810 (, ) was set up by Napoleon Bonaparte as a puppet kingdom for his third brother, Louis Bonaparte, in order to better control the Netherlands.

King Louis did not perform to Napoleon's expectations — he tried to serve Dutch interests instead of his brother's — and the kingdom was dissolved in 1810 after which the Netherlands were annexed by France until 1813.

After annexing the southern provinces of Holland into the Empire, Napoleon convinced Louis to abdicate and in 1810 annexed the kingdom into the French Empire making the Netherlands, in effect, an integral part of France itself.

The samples, donated by " Mr. Peter Choteau, who resided the greater portion of his time for many years with the Osage Nation " according to Lewis's letter, didn't take, but later the thorny Osage-orange was widely naturalized throughout the U. Napoleon finally invaded Holland on 1 July 1810, forcing Louis to abdicate the same day, and annexed the entire Kingdom of Holland on 9 July.

Louis XVIII's wife, Queen Marie Joséphine, died on 13 November 1810.

In 1810, after his Dutch kingdom was taken away from him, Louis remained in Holland for nearly three years, turning to writing and poetry.

Between 1808 and 1810, during the Kingdom of Holland, King Louis Napoleon resided in Amsterdam and declared the city capital of his kingdom and seat of government.

In 1810 the Netherlands were annexed by the French Empire and King Louis Napoleon was replaced by a French governor, who took up residence in the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.
