# Cao Wei ( 220 – 265 )

Xiahou Dun ( died 13 June 220 ) was a military general serving under the warlord Cao Cao during the late Han Dynasty period of Chinese history.

After Cao Cao's death in 220, his successor Cao Pi forced Emperor Xian of Han to abdicate and subsequently assumed the throne as the first emperor of the state of Cao Wei.

In 220, Cao Pi forced Emperor Xian, last ruler of the Han Dynasty, to abdicate and proclaimed himself Emperor of Wei.

In the winter of 220, Cao Pi made his move for the imperial throne, strongly suggesting to Emperor Xian that he should yield the throne.

An immediate issue after Cao Pi became emperor in 220 was who the empress would be.

Cao Pi eventually succeeded Cao Cao in 220 and within a year declared himself the first emperor of the state of Cao Wei.

After Cao Pi succeeded Cao Cao in 220, Zhang Liao was further promoted to General of the Vanguard ( 前將軍 ) and again deployed to Hefei to defend against Sun Quan.

In 220, Cao Pi forced Emperor Xian to abdicate in his favour, effectively ending the Han Dynasty and starting the state of Cao Wei.

After Cao Cao died in 220, his successor Cao Pi promoted Zhang He to General of the Left ( 左將軍 ).

With the capital at Luoyang, the state was established by Cao Pi in 220, based upon the foundations that his father Cao Cao laid.

In 220, when Cao Pi deposed the last emperor of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Wei became the name of the new dynasty he founded, which was seized and controlled by the Sima family in 249, until it was overthrown and became part of the Jin Dynasty in 265.

On March 15, 220, Cao Cao died and his son Cao Pi inherited the title of " King of Wei ".

In 220, after the death of Cao Cao, his son Cao Pi forced the Han Dynasty's last ruler, Emperor Xian to abdicate, taking over the Han throne and starting a new Cao Wei dynasty.

After Cao Cao's death in 220, Xu continued to be heavily trusted by Cao Cao's successor Cao Pi.
