* Wat Chalong ( ว ั ดฉลองหร ื อว ั ดไชยธาราราม ) is where stands the cast statue of Luang Pho Cham, who helped the people of Phuket put down the Angyee, or Chinese Coolie Rebellion, in 1876 during the reign of Rama V. There are also statues of Luang Pho Chuang, and Luang Pho Cham, abbots of the temple during later times.

A Cham story tells of the time that the two countries settled an armed conflict by means of a tower-building contest proposed by the Cham King Po Klaung Garai.

* King Jayavarman VII of Ankor Vat defeats the Cham conquerors.

The first written document on the area originates from the year 858, and refers to King Ludwig the German giving the farm ‘ Chama ’ ( Cham ) to the Zurich Fraumünster convent.

However, a Khmer prince who was to become King Jayavarman VII rallied his people and defeated the Cham in battles on the lake and on the land.

Lê Hoàn decided to go on the offensive, sacking Indrapura and killing the Cham King Parameshvaravarman I.

At the same time, King Norodom inherited a major Cham rebellion against Khmer rule which his father began to put down but died before he could defeat them.

The latest significant Cham record at Mỹ Sơn is a pillar inscription of King Jaya Indravarman V dated 1243 AD.

The inscriptions also provide us with important information such as the name of the country ( typically Campadesa in the Sanskrit inscriptions, nagara Campa in the Cham inscriptions ), and the names of some of its most important cities: Simhapura (" Lion City "), Virapura (" Knight City "), Rajapura (" King City "), Vijaya (" District ").

* The name of the Cham Prince who was the military governor of the area in the 15th century was Po Thit ( brother of the princess Po Inu Sah and son of King Par Ra Cham Chanh or Trà Chanh ).

By the 17th century, the Royal families of Cham Lords also began to turn to Islam and this eventually triggerred the major shift in religious orientation of the Cham so that by the time of their final annexation by the Vietnamese, the majority of the Cham people had converted to Islam.

However, the Trần Dynasty was successful in gaining two Champa provinces, located around present-day Huế, through the peaceful means of the political marriage of Princess Huyền Trân to a Cham king.

The Đại Việt campaign against Champa continued into the late 11th century, when the Cham were forced to cede their three northern provinces to the rulers of the Lý Dynasty.
