The Arizona Cardinals are a professional American football team whose team facilities are headquartered in Glendale, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix.

The Cardinals conduct their annual summer training camp at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.

The Falcons would go on to lose in the wild-card round of the 2008 NFL playoffs to the eventual NFC champion Arizona Cardinals, 30 – 24.

Arizona had postseason victories over the St. Louis Cardinals ( 3 – 2 in the NLDS ) and the Atlanta Braves ( 4 – 1 in the NLCS ) to advance to the World Series where, in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York City, they beat the three-time reigning champions, the New York Yankees, 4 to 3, to become the youngest expansion franchise to win the World Series ( in just their fourth season of play ).

While some fans applauded the redesign, most of the reaction to the new color scheme, which included the changing of the historical purple and traditional Arizonan colors of copper and turquoise to a reddish color known as " Sedona Red " similar to that of the Phoenix Coyotes and Arizona Cardinals color schemes, was pointedly negative.

However, the Panthers ' season came to a crushing end, as they lost to the Arizona Cardinals 33 – 13 at Bank of America Stadium in the NFC Divisional playoff game.

A recent rivalry has developed between the Panthers and Arizona Cardinals.

The Panthers got their second win of the season against the Arizona Cardinals on December 19, 2010 with a score of 19-12.

Along with the Arizona Cardinals ( originally from Chicago ), it is one of only two remaining franchises from the NFL's founding.

Gailey led the team to two playoff appearances with a 10 – 6 record in 1998 and an NFC East championship, but the Cowboys were defeated in the playoffs by the Arizona Cardinals 20-7 ; after an 8 – 8 season in 1999 ( during which Irvin suffered a career-ending spinal injury in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles ) ending in another playoff loss ( this time to the Minnesota Vikings 27-10 ), he was fired and became the first Cowboys coach who did not take the team to a Super Bowl.

However, things soon went downhill from there, as quarterback Tony Romo suffered a broken pinkie in an overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

The now Arizona Cardinals, back when they were in St. Louis, were one of the first teams to try doing this trick when the Cowboys visited the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

In 2008 the rivalry became more intense when in the last game of the year in which both teams could clinch a playoff spot with a victory, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Cowboys 44 – 6, and clinched a playoff spot, where they would go to lose the NFC Championship game to the Arizona Cardinals.

The Lions have won four NFL Championships, the last in 1957, giving the club the second-longest NFL championship drought behind the Arizona Cardinals.

In the playoffs, the Vikings rolled past the Arizona Cardinals 41 – 21, and came into the Metrodome heavily favored for their NFC title showdown with the Atlanta Falcons, who had gone 14 – 2 in the regular season.

However, the Arizona Cardinals completed a game winning touchdown on 4th and 28 with 0: 00 left knocking the Vikings out of the playoffs.

The Eagles would go on to defeat the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants in the Divisional round, only to lose to the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game.

In Week 9, the Vikings played the Arizona Cardinals at home and won 27 – 24 in overtime.

Three years later, the Vikings played the November 7, 2010 home game against the Arizona Cardinals in the all-purple uniform.

They won the National League Division Series in five games over the Arizona Diamondbacks, but lost to the eventual World Series champions St. Louis Cardinals in six games during the NLCS.
