In the Elseworld story Batman: In Darkest Knight, Jim Gordon is an honest cop who distrusts the Green Lantern ( who in this reality is Bruce Wayne ) because of his near-limitless power.

An alternate Sinestro appears in Batman: In Darkest Knight, fulfilling both his own role and that of the Joker, becoming unhinged after absorbing the mind of Joe Chill, as well as creating that world's Two Face / Evil Star and Star Sapphire / Catwoman.

In the Batman: In Darkest Knight, she was part of the Lantern send to restrain the Green Lantern Batman.

Joe Chill is featured in many Elseworld titles, including Superman: Speeding Bullets, Citizen Wayne, Batman: In Darkest Knight, Batman: Holy Terror, Batman in Arkham,

Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins and its sequel The Dark Knight are set during the same timespan and adopt several elements directly from the graphic novel.

1984 – 2000 ) has even more potential starting points, but is generally agreed to be the publication of Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Alan Moore's Watchmen by DC Comics in 1986, as well as the publication of DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths, written by Marv Wolfman with pencils by George Pérez.

* Superman: Speeding Bullets re-imagines the story of Kal-El as his ship crashes at Wayne Manor in Gotham City instead of Smallville, essentially creating a Batman with the powers of Superman.

The initial story arc of the Superman / Batman ongoing series depicts the fall of Luthor's reign as U. S. President.

In 2009, the story of Luthor's rise and fall as U. S. President was adapted as a direct-to-video animated film entitled Superman / Batman: Public Enemies.

* In Issue # 3 ( January 1976, shortly after Monty Python began being broadcast in the U. S .) of the comic book title Batman Family the joint exploits of Batgirl ( Barbara Gordon ) and Robin ( Dick Grayson ) the story " Isle of a Thousand Thrills " borrowed the scenario of a land where anything anybody thinks of is quickly brought to life.

* Solo ( 2006, DC Comics ), the eleventh issue of this DC Comics artist anthology series features various stories written and illustrated by Aragonés, some biographical, and a Batman story written by Mark Evanier.

These include the story that Orson Welles began work on a Batman movie in the 1940s, which was to feature James Cagney as The Riddler and Marlene Dietrich as Catwoman ; the persistent rumour that the rock singer Courtney Love is the granddaughter of Marlon Brando ; and the idea that in a famous 1970s poster of Farrah Fawcett, there is a subliminal sexual message concealed in the actress's hair.

Some of Anderson's superhero novels include Enemies & Allies, about the first meeting of Batman and Superman and ' The Last Days of Krypton ', telling the story of how Krypton came to be destroyed and the choice two parents had to make for their son.

One story, The Two-Bit Dictator of Twin Mills, drawn by Batman co-creator Bob Kane, featured a hitman called Jojo who was, according to writer Al Schwartz, made to look like Lorre.

* Batman: Bruce Wayne, 55, retired as Batman ten years prior to the beginning of the story.

Later, a Batman and Joker Gift Set was released including both characters with new paint schemes to reflect earlier points in the story, as well as a 48-page prestige format reprint of The Dark Knight Returns # 1.

Additionally, Miller drew a short Batman Christmas story, " Wanted: Santa Claus – Dead or Alive ", written by Denny O ' Neil for DC Special Series No. 21 ( Spring 1980 ).

The story is a precursor to the " disguised superhero " tales such as Zorro and Batman.

A Batman story from the 1950s featured the young Bruce Wayne assuming the identity of Robin, complete with the original costume, in order to learn the basics of detective work from a famous detective named Harvey Harris.

This story was later revised in the 1980s post-Crisis to edit out any reference to Bruce Wayne having ever called himself " Robin " or worn any costume before he finally donned his Batman costume as an adult.

John Byrne later worked this aspect into his non-canonical story Superman & Batman: Generations.

The title was replaced by a Batman and Robin series following the Battle for the Cowl mini-series, as well as an ongoing Red Robin monthly which continues the story of Tim Drake.

" Finger later publicly acknowledged that " my first Batman script was a take-off on a Shadow story " and that " Batman was originally written in the style of the pulps.

Examples include a parody of the story published in a 1970 Batman comic book, comedic references in television programmes such as The Simpsons ( 1990 ), being discussed in a 2006 episode of the Catalan soap opera El Cor de la Ciutat, and a 2009 Wired Italia magazine article which compared selected photographs of McCartney, taken before and after his alleged demise.

A tried-and-tested method for presenting newspaper comic strips, the 2003 DC Elseworlds story Batman: Nine Lives also used this method-although unlike those titles, Vertical is designed to be read vertically, and not horizontally.

This run lasted until # 74, with a brief run thereafter in Adventure Comics # 461-466, but it had three significant developments: It introduced the popular character Power Girl in All Star Comics # 58 ; it chronicled the death of the Golden Age Batman in Adventure Comics # 461-462 ; and, after nearly 40 years, it finally provided the JSA with an origin story in DC Special # 29.

In the story, Batman recounts the JLA and JSA's battle alongside the original Legion to defeat Mordru, the " Reboot " team's assistance in destroying a Sun-Eater in the 20th century, and his own recent encounter with the " Threeboot " team.

Will Brooker argues in Batman Unmasked: Analyzing a Cultural Icon, that a queer reading of Batman is a valid interpretation, and that homosexual readers would naturally find themselves drawn to the lifestyle depicted within, whether the character of Bruce Wayne himself is explicitly homosexual or not.

In the acclaimed 1993 animated film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm ( based on Batman: The Animated Series ), creators Bruce Timm, Paul Dini and Alan Burnett draw aspects from Batman: Year One during the flashback scenes, these include:

* The present-time scene where Batman / Bruce is cornered by Detective Bullock's SWAT Team adheres to a similar setting from the graphic novel as mentioned above ( the abandoned tenement fire from issue # 3 ).

* There are also a few scenes in Seasons 1 and 2 as well as The Batman vs Dracula film where Batman / Bruce is being hunted down and then cornered by the GCPD's SWAT Team in an abandoned building.

Bruce then discovers the cavern where he first saw the image that inspired him to become Batman – a giant bat.

* The scene where Bruce being a child falls into the cave and see a bat as his inspiration and his fear ( also used in Batman Begins ), something not mentioned in the prequels of Tim Burton.

* Christian Bale's ' street attire ' in Batman Begins mimics the clothes in the first issue of Batman: Year One when Bruce is walking down the Lower East End.

2, with the character of Bill noting that Superman was not born into his alter ego ( Spider-Man was " Peter Parker " first, Batman was born " Bruce Wayne "), using the blanket he was wrapped in as his costume, and Clark Kent is a collage of mankind's less impressive traits meant to blend in with other humans ( as well as a device to pursue Lois Lane's affections ).

Ironically, Batman ultimately learns that the entire debacle was the fault of Luthor alone as he attempted to take control of Gotham by forging deeds for the land in his name, which results in Bruce Wayne severing all commercial ties between the U. S. government and his company, Wayne Enterprises, in protest of Luthor's election as President.

* 1939: The names " Robert the Bruce " and " Mad Anthony Wayne " are the inspiration for " Bruce Wayne ", the name for the civilian identity of DC Comics superhero Batman.

2 Time Warped takes place in an alternate 2040 where Batman Beyond, Warhawk, Static, and Bruce Wayne are the only remaining members of the JLU.

Originally a stage actor, Kilmer is best known for his roles as Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's The Doors, Doc Holliday in Tombstone and Bruce Wayne / Batman in Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever.

In 2005, he was cast as Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred Pennyworth in the first production of the new Batman film series.
