The Spanish commander, Juan Francisco Bodega y Quadra, was very cordial and he and Vancouver exchanged the maps they had made, but no agreement was reached ; they decided to await further instructions.

These included: Rheinterrasse, Löwenbräu ( Bavarian beer restaurant ), Grinzing ( Viennese café and wine bar ), Bodega ( Spanish winery ), Csarda ( Hungarian ), Wild West Bar ( aka the Arizona Bar ) ( American ), Osteria ( Italian ), Kombüse ( Bremen drinking den-literally " galley "), Rübchen ( Teltow, named after the well-known turnip dish Teltower Rübchen, made with turnips grown locally in the small town of Teltow just outside Berlin ), plus a Turkish cafe and Japanese tearoom ; additionally there was a large ballroom.

The island was originally named Quadra's and Vancouver's Island in commemoration of the friendly negotiations held by Spanish Commander of the Nootka Sound settlement Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra, and British Naval Captain George Vancouver on Nootka Sound in 1792, to find a solution to the Nootka Crisis.

Present day Bodega Bay was first charted in 1775 by the Spanish Peruvian explorer of the Spanish Navy Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra, but the bay that was originally named for him was not present day Bodega, but Tomales Bay.

Kuskov sailed the Brig Chirikov back to present day Bodega Harbour on March 15, 1812, and " Since Bodega Anchorage and Bodega Harbour had not been claimed or named by the Spanish " Kuskov named it Rumyantzev, in honor of the Russian Minister of Commerce, Count Nikolai Petrovich Rumiantzof.

Britain's claims to the region were dated back to the voyage of Sir Francis Drake in 1579, and also by right of prior discovery by Captain James Cook in 1778, although the Spanish had explored and claimed the region in 1774, under Juan Pérez, and in 1775, under Bruno de Heceta and Bodega y Quadra.

The Nootka Conventions of the 1790s, carried out in part by George Vancouver and his Spanish counterpart Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra, prevented the dispute from escalating to war.

A recent Sutter biography however, asserts that Sutter's agent, Peter Burnett, paid the Russian-American Company agent William M. Steuart $ 19, 788 in " notes and gold " on April 13th, 1849, thereby settling the outstanding debt for Fort Ross and Bodega.

In 1812, the Russian-American Company set up a fortified trading post at Fort Ross, located north of present day Bodega Bay some sixty miles north of San Francisco, with the never-materialized hope of using that area to develop a source of agricultural products needed for their settlements in Alaska.

He has also produced records for aming others Bodega Band ( 1977 ).

As a result, his name came to be attached to such exotic things as Spiranthes romanzoffiana, a North American orchid, Papilio rumanzovia, a large butterfly from the Philippines, and was, between 1812 and 1842 the Russian name ( залив Румянцева ) for present day Bodega Bay, California.

Bodega y Quadra had all the training and qualifications necessary to be considered for a senior officer position, but as a non-Spaniard he was subject to the class prejudice common to Spain and the colonial Americas during that time.

While searching for a safe place for the ships to anchor, which was one of the duties of the Sonora, Bodega y Quadra sailed over what is now called Sonora Reef.

Bodega y Quadra was able to draw for the first time a reasonably accurate map of the west coast of North America.

In 1780 Bodega was ordered to sail to the Viceroyalty of Peru in order to acquire quicksilver ( mercury ), which was required by the Mexican silver mining industry.
