Lord Thomas Bulkeley bought the castle from the Crown in 1807 for £ 735, incorporating it into the park that surrounded his local residence, Baron Hill.

These refugees were held in a detainment area called Camp Bulkeley until United States district court Judge Sterling Johnson Jr. declared the camp unconstitutional on June 8, 1993.

In 1868 the area became a parish, but it was merged with Cheadle Bulkeley in 1879 and became part of the Cheadle and Gatley district in 1894.
