The population was officially 1, 835 at the 2010 census, although residents of the Chesapeake Ranch Estates-Drum Point community also use the Lusby zip code designation, making Lusby in fact a much larger community.

A large housing development called Chesapeake Ranch Estates is nearby, as well as the tourist resort town of Solomons.

Several new roads have either been built or are in planning stages in order to ease traffic congestion to and from the Chesapeake Ranch Estates-Drum Point communities.

There is also a private air field owned and operated by the Chesapeake Ranch Estates and Drum Point communities.

The Chesapeake Ranch Estates ( CRE ), also known locally as the Ranch Club, is located in Lusby, Maryland, in southern Calvert County.

CRE was founded in 1958 as is governed by a homeowners ' association, which is officially called the " Property Owner's Association of the Chesapeake Ranch Estates " ( POACRE ).

This matter was the subject of litigation in the case of Hanson vs Calvert County, the case is settled, Calvert County and its co defendant, Property Owners of Chesapeake Ranch Estates won the case.

It was alleged in this case that in 1989 the founders of POACRE illegally co-opted the powers of the developer ( Chesapeake Ranch Club, Inc .) as Declarant of the covenants.

The Cove Point LNG Terminal is located near Lusby, Maryland, on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge crosses the bay in Maryland from Sandy Point ( near Annapolis ) to Kent Island ; and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel in Virginia connects Virginia Beach to Cape Charles.

In the 1632 Charter of Maryland, King Charles I of England granted " all that Part of the Peninsula, or Chersonese, lying in the Parts of America, between the Ocean on the East and the Bay of Chesapeake on the West, divided from the Residue thereof by a Right Line drawn from the Promontory, or Head-Land, called Watkin's Point, situate upon the Bay aforesaid, near the river Wigloo, on the West, unto the main Ocean on the East ; and between that Boundary on the South, unto that Part of the Bay of Delaware on the North, which lieth under the Fortieth Degree of North Latitude from the Equinoctial, where New England is terminated " to Cæcilius Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore as the colony of Maryland.

Later surveys authorized by Baltimore on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake indicated that the southern boundary would continue across the peninsula at the mouth of the Pocomoke River marked on the north shore by a rock outcropping labelled as " Watkins ' Point ".

It is located at Gloucester Point along what would be the county's beach, taking samples and measurements for the Chesapeake Bay, and putting specimens on display.

Sandy Point State Park is approximately two or three miles ( 5 km ) east of Arnold proper and includes a beach on the Chesapeake Bay in proximity to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the Sandy Point Lighthouse.

Elevations range from sea level on the shore of the Chesapeake Bay to approximately above sea level along the northern reaches of Dundalk Avenue and North Point Boulevard.

There is a public golf course, Chesapeake Hills Golf Course near Cove Point Park.

Places of note in the Lusby area include the Cove Point Lighthouse on the Chesapeake Bay and Calvert Cliffs State Park.

The Tehachapi area is known for the nearby Tehachapi Loop ( a popular railfan site ), Tehachapi Pass Wind Farm, The Indian Point Ostrich Ranch, the Tomo-Kahni State Historic Park and Tomi-Kahni Resource Center ( Native American ), and excellent air conditions for gliding.

Flight safety corridors for the Titan III MOL vehicle reportedly extended south of Point Arguello and inland to an area known as Sudden Ranch.

Over twenty individual state and municipal parks are in the Santa Monica Mountains, including: Topanga State Park, Leo Carrillo State Park, Malibu Creek State Park, Point Mugu State Park, Will Rogers State Historic Park, Point Dume State Beach, Griffith Park, Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park, Charmlee Wilderness Park, Franklin Canyon Park, Runyon Canyon Park, King Gillette Ranch Park, and Paramount Ranch Park.

From 1940 to 1990, actress and dancer Ginger Rogers owned the Rogue River Ranch, operated for many years as a dairy farm, near Eagle Point.

A few Indian reserves are also located on the river banks, among them Beaver Ranch 163, John D ' Or Prairie 215, Fox Lake 162, Peace Point 222 and Devil's Gate 220.

The river leaves the Grand Canyon as it passes under Dodger Point Bridge and past Humes Ranch Cabin along the Geyser Valley trail.
