The Chesapeake Ranch Estates ( CRE ), also known locally as the Ranch Club, is located in Lusby, Maryland, in southern Calvert County.
CRE was founded in 1958 as is governed by a homeowners ' association, which is officially called the " Property Owner's Association of the Chesapeake Ranch Estates " ( POACRE ).
This matter was the subject of litigation in the case of Hanson vs Calvert County, the case is settled, Calvert County and its co defendant, Property Owners of Chesapeake Ranch Estates won the case.
It was alleged in this case that in 1989 the founders of POACRE illegally co-opted the powers of the developer ( Chesapeake Ranch Club, Inc .) as Declarant of the covenants.

The Cove Point LNG Terminal is located near Lusby, Maryland, on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge crosses the bay in Maryland from Sandy Point ( near Annapolis ) to Kent Island ; and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel in Virginia connects Virginia Beach to Cape Charles.
In the 1632 Charter of Maryland, King Charles I of England granted " all that Part of the Peninsula, or Chersonese, lying in the Parts of America, between the Ocean on the East and the Bay of Chesapeake on the West, divided from the Residue thereof by a Right Line drawn from the Promontory, or Head-Land, called Watkin's Point, situate upon the Bay aforesaid, near the river Wigloo, on the West, unto the main Ocean on the East ; and between that Boundary on the South, unto that Part of the Bay of Delaware on the North, which lieth under the Fortieth Degree of North Latitude from the Equinoctial, where New England is terminated " to Cæcilius Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore as the colony of Maryland.
Later surveys authorized by Baltimore on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake indicated that the southern boundary would continue across the peninsula at the mouth of the Pocomoke River marked on the north shore by a rock outcropping labelled as " Watkins ' Point ".
