When Liu Bei was appointed as the governor of Pingyuan County, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei were made " Senior Major " ( 别部司马 ) under Liu.

They were captured in Zhang Town ( east of present-day Yuan ' an County, Hubei ) and executed by Sun Quan after refusing to surrender.

In Chapter 1, Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei met in Zhuo County and took an oath of fraternity in the fabled Peach Garden, thus becoming sworn brothers.

A Zhang Liang Tomb stands at 6 km southwest of present-day Lankao County, Henan.

According to legend, during the Lü Clan Disturbance, Zhang Liang moved to Mount Baiyun at the southwest of Donghun County ( present-day Lankao County, Henan ), and was buried there after his death.

Another Zhang Liang Tomb stands at south of Weishan County, Shandong.

However, some believed that Zhang Liang's tomb was in present-day Pei County, Xuzhou.

According to Kuodizhi ( 括地志 ), written during the Tang Dynasty, Zhang Liang's tomb was 65 li east of Pei County, near Liucheng, where a Zhang Liang Temple was also located.

The surveyor of the circuit, Liu Wan ( 劉灣 ), later invited him to serve as assistant ; yet later, while he was serving as the secretary general of Liyang County ( 櫟陽, in modern Xi ' an, Shaanxi ), he served under the senior official Zhang Yi at a treaty signing with Tufan.

Pang De again served Ma Teng well, breaking Zhang at Yao ( 殽, around present-day Luoning County, Henan province ), his performance in this battle was praised as " the bravest amongst Ma Teng's men ".

His father Li Zhen ' e ( 李鎮惡 ), who had served as the magistrate of Xiangcheng County ( 襄城, in modern Xuchang, Henan ), died early, and it was said that Li Jiao served his mother Lady Zhang with great filial piety.

Born in Pingxiang County, Jiangxi, Zhang was involved in revolutionary activities during his youth.
