The Codex Cumanicus ( 12th – 13th centuries ) concerning the Northwestern branch is another early linguistic manual, between the Kipchak language and Latin, used by the Catholic missionaries sent to the Western Cumans inhabiting a region corresponding to present-day Hungary and Romania.

Its potential as a drawing aid may have been familiar to artists by as early as the 15th century ; Leonardo da Vinci ( 1452 – 1519 AD ) described the camera obscura in Codex Atlanticus.

The later is the Chronicle of Alfonso III, which was revised in the early tenth century and preserved in two textual traditions that diverge in several key passages: the, preserved in the Roda Codex, and the, supposedly written by Sebastian, Bishop of Salamanca ( 910 – 913 ).

In addition, there was a composer named Lupus, often referred to by contemporary musicologists as the " Italian Lupus ", whose works survive in the Medici Codex ; another composer named Lupus Hellinck, who may be the same as the " Italian Lupus "; and an entire family of musicians named Lupo.

Still another version of this short edition of the text was discovered in an ancient Coptic Codex acquired by Dr. Carl Reinhardt in Cairo in 1896.

It is disputed, whether another fragment also survived in the more recently discovered Codex Tchacos, which may help in filling the gaps.

The collectors of the Vietórisz Codex, whose identities are unknown, and another anonymous collector from Lőcse, also published " the first examples of autonomous, developed virginal music, equally accomplished in style, melodic texture and technique of adaptation ".

The Codex Aureus of St. Emmeram ( Munich, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Clm 14000 ) is a 9th century illuminated Gospel Book.

Also known as Codex purpureus Rossanensis due to the reddish ( purpureus in Latin ) appearance of its pages, the codex is one of the oldest surviving illuminated manuscripts of the New Testament.

The Codex Vyssegradensis, also known as the Vyšehrad Codex or the Coronation Gospels of Vratislav II, is a late 11th century illuminated manuscript Gospel Book made at the order of Czech diplomats to honour an anniversary of the Czech King Vratislav's coronation which took place in 1085.

Southumbria produced a number of important illuminated manuscripts during the eighth and early ninth centuries, including the Vespasian Psalter, the Stockholm Codex Aureus, three Mercian prayer books ( the Royal Prayer book, the Book of Nunnaminster and the Book of Cerne ), the Tiberius Bede and the Royal Bible.

Lorenzo is represented in the Squarcialupi Codex, the illuminated manuscript which is the most comprehensive source of Italian music of the 14th century, with 16 pieces of music, 10 madrigals, 6 ballate and one caccia.

In 2010, Flying Lotus ( Steve Ellison ) selected works from McCloskey ’ s illuminated books, the Codex Tor *, as the album art for his highly acclaimed Cosmogramma.

McCloskey ’ s Codex Tor illuminated books, Volume One, Winter Solstice, Volume Two, Summer Solstice and Volume Three, Equinox comprise over 500 hand drawn and painted images in three volumes and was created over a 21 year period beginning in 1982.
