During this time period warfare broke out again between the two states and Emperor Eskender invaded Dakkar where he was stopped by a large Adalite army who destroyed the Solomonic army to such an extent that no further expeditions were carried out for the remaining of Eskender's reign.

Eskender was succeeded by Emperor Na ' od who tried to defend the Christians from General Mahfuz but he too was also killed in battle by the Adalite army in Ifat.

Frederick II of Brandenburg () ( 19 November 1413 – 10 February 1471 ), nicknamed " the Iron " ( der Eiserne ) and sometimes " Irontooth " ( Eisenzahn ), was a Prince-elector of the Margraviate of Brandenburg from 1440 until his abdication in 1470, and was a member of the House of Hohenzollern.

His son Borso received the title of duke for the imperial fiefs of Modena and Reggio from Emperor Frederick III in 1452 ( in which year Girolamo Savonarola was born here ), and in 1471 was made duke of Ferrara by Pope Paul II.

Pope Paul II ( 23 February 1417 – 26 July 1471 ), born Pietro Barbo, was Pope from 1464 until his death in 1471.

His successors were Leonello ( 1407 – 1450 ) and Borso ( 1413 – 1471 ), who was elevated to Duke of Modena and Reggio by Emperor Frederick III in 1452 and in return received these duchies as imperial fiefs.

Under abbots John Greenwell ( 1442 – 1471 ), Thomas Swinton ( 1471 – 8 ), John Darnton ( 1478 – 95 ), who undertook some much needed restoration of the fabric of the abbey including notable work on the church, and Marmaduke Huby ( 1495 – 1526 ) Fountains regained stability and prosperity.
