MGT's later DOSs ( G + DOS for the + D, and SAM DOS for the SAM Coupé ) were backwards-compatible with GDOS.

The + D's DOS was named G + DOS, and was compatible with the DISCiPLE's DOS, GDOS.

SAM DOS for MGT's SAM Coupé was backwards-compatible with GDOS and G + DOS.

The DISCiPLE's DOS was named GDOS.

These commands were then examined by GDOS, whose task it was to send the commands to the proper driver for actual rendering.

GDOS was also responsible for loading up the drivers and any requested fonts when GEM was first loaded.
