George Caleb Bingham's Daniel Boone Escorting Settlers through the Cumberland Gap ( 1851 – 52 ) is a famous depiction of Boone.

According to American artist George Caleb Bingham, himself a resident of Kansas City at the time, one could see the " dense columns of smoke arising in every direction ", symbolic of what he termed " a ruthless military despotism which spared neither age, sex, character, nor condition ".

Union troops guarded the Thomas Viaduct and the thoroughfare to Baltimore City with a captured Winans Steam Gun while camping on Lawyers Hill, a community of summer estates built over the years by residents such as Caleb Dorsey (" Belmont "), Baltimore City Supreme Bench Judge George Washington Dobbin (" the Lawn "), Thomas Donaldson (" Edgewood "), John Latrobe (" Fairy-Knowe "), and the Penniman family home (" Wyndhurst ").

George Caleb Bingham ( March 20, 1811 – July 7, 1879 ) was an American artist whose paintings of American life in the frontier lands along the Missouri River exemplify the Luminist style.

That year the George Caleb Bingham Catalogue Raisonné Supplement Of Paintings & Drawings announced the authentication of ten recently discovered paintings by Bingham ; like all but about 5 % of his works, they are unsigned.

Born in Augusta County, Virginia, George Caleb Bingham was the second of seven children of Mary Amend and Henry Vest Bingham.

He was born in Marylebone, the elder son of George Bingham, 6th Earl of Lucan and Kaitlin Elizabeth Anne Dawson.

Recusants were subject to various civil disabilities and penalties under English penal laws, most of which were repealed during the Regency and reign of George IV ( 1811 – 30 ).

Some feel that the popular use of the term " Regency dance " is not technically correct, as the actual English Regency ( the future George IV ruling on behalf of mad King George III ) lasted only from 1811 until 1820.
