In Northern Italy the High Renaissance represented by the religious paintings of Giovanni Bellini which include several large altarpieces of a type known as " Sacred Conversation " which show a group of saints around the enthroned Madonna.

The chapel also holds a Madonna by Giovanni Battista Salvi da Sassoferrato.

In 1775 the church authorities of Montorio al Vomano ceded San Giovanni in Pergulis and all of its associated religious functions, to the main church of Valle San Giovanni, Madonna della Neve.

The latter sits in the center of Valle San Giovanni, and takes its name, Madonna della Neve ( Our Lady of Snow ), from a legend in which a church was to be erected on the spot where a summer snowfall was to occur.

The main artworks are a wondrously carved baptismal font from 1470 – 1474 and the Madonna delle Grazie by Matteo di Giovanni ( 1470 ).

Giovanni Vitelleschi commissioned Filippo Lippi to paint the famous Madonna and Child Enthroned ( now in Palazzo Barberini, Rome ) for his palace in Tarquinia.
