In 1795, Governor Diego de Borica gave José Darío Argüello a Spanish land grant known as Rancho de las Pulgas.

Spanish rule over the island, which nominally began in 1498, ended when the final Spanish Royal Governor, Don José Maria Chacón surrendered the island to a British fleet of 18 warships under the command of Sir Ralph Abercromby on 18 February 1797.

The treaty was drafted in English and Spanish by José Antonio Carrillo, approved by American Lieutenant-Colonel John C. Frémont and Mexican Governor Andrés Pico on January 13, 1847 at Campo de Cahuenga in what is now North Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.

Buenos Aires Governor Juan Manuel de Rosas exerted a growing hegemony over the rest of the country during his 1835-1852 Government and resisted several Unitarian uprisings, but was finally defeated in 1852 by a coalition Army gathered by Entre Ríos Federalist Governor Justo José de Urquiza, who accused Rosas of not complying with Federal Pact provisions for a National Constitution.

José María de Echeandía, the first native Mexican elected Governor of Alta California issued a " Proclamation of Emancipation " ( or " Prevenciónes de Emancipacion ") on July 25, 1826.

Although Governor José Figueroa ( who took office in 1833 ) initially attempted to keep the mission system intact, the Mexican Congress nevertheless passed An Act for the Secularization of the Missions of California on August 17, 1833.

Governor José Joaquín de Arrillaga approved the plan the following year, however an outbreak of sarampion ( measles ) killing some 200 Tongva people coupled with a scarcity of land for agriculture and potable water left the success of such a venture in doubt, so no effort to found an island mission was ever made.

Slapped with fresh embargoes and a joint blockade, Argentina by 1851 found itself bankrupt and with " rogue nation " standing ; on 3 February 1852, a surprise military campaign led by the Governor of Entre Ríos Province, Justo José de Urquiza, put an end to the Rosas regime and, until 1878, at least, serious Argentine foreign policy misadventures.

Acknowledging that it was in Spanish territory, in April 1816, he informed Governor José Masot of West Florida that if the Spanish did not eliminate the fort, he would.

Indeed, evidence suggests that Rosales was very nearly shot as well for helping García Lorca by the Civil Governor Valdes. The Basque Communist poet Gabriel Celaya wrote in his memoirs that he once found García Lorca in the company of Falangist José Maria Aizpurua.

Married with Marly Sarney, his progeny are Congressman José Sarney Filho, Governor Roseana Sarney, and the businessman Fernando Sarney.

In Honduras, Comayagua, through its Governor José Tinoco de Contreras, supported the idea of the annexation.

In 1873, 300 Coahuila ranchers organized an armed resistance to oppose the " re-election " of Porfirio Díaz's supporter José María Garza Galán as Governor of Coahuila.

As a teenager, Mariano, his nephew Juan Bautista Alvarado ( 1809 – 1882 ), and José Castro ( 1808 – 1860 ) received special instruction from Governor Pablo Vicente de Solá.

When the crowd — eventually reinforced by mutinous gardes françaises — proved a fair match for the fort's defenders, Governor de Launay, the commander of the Bastille, capitulated and opened the gates to avoid a mutual massacre.

Despite ordering a cease fire, which prevented a mutual massacre, Governor Marquis Bernard de Launay was beaten, stabbed and decapitated ; his head was placed on a pike and paraded about the city.

The Governor of Gibraltar, Diego de Salinas, refused the ultimatum.

A dejected procession, numbering some 4, 000 according to most of the sources, such as Hills or Jackson filed out of the Land Port with Queen Isabella's banner at their head, and led by the Spanish Governor, Diego de Salinas, the Spanish garrison, with their three brass cannon, the religious orders, the city council and all those inhabitants who did not wish to take the oath of allegiance to Charles III as asked by the terms of surrender.

Even if the formal transfer of sovereignty would not take place until the signature of the Treaty of Utrecht, the British Governor and garrison become the de facto rulers of the town.

On 17 March 1649 a French expedition of 203 men from Martinique, led by Jacques Dyel du Parquet who had been the Governor of Martinique on behalf of the Compagnie des Iles de l ' Amerique ( Company of the Isles of America ) since 1637, landed at St. Georges Harbour and constructed a fortified settlement, which they named Fort Annunciation.

The Portuguese Governor and Commander in Chief from 1968 to 1973, General António de Spínola, returned to Portugal and led the movement which brought democracy to Portugal and independence for its colonies.
