It was reported that Muslim villages in Henan province, which was next to Shaanxi, were totally unnaffected by the Dungan revolt and relations between Han and Hui continued normally.

Allès wrote in the document " Notes on some joking relationships between Hui and Han villages in Henan " published by French Centre for Research on Contemporary China that " The major Muslim revolts in the middle of the nineteenth century which involved the Hui in Shaanxi, Gansu and Yunnan, as well as the Uyghurs in Xinjiang, do not seem to have had any direct effect on this region of the central plain.

Wu and Chu forces therefore concentrated against Liang, against Emperor Jing's younger brother Liu Wu ( 劉武 ), the Prince of Liang, whose forces initially suffered devastating defeats, forcing Liu Wu to withdraw to his capital of Suiyang ( 睢陽, in modern Shangqiu, Henan ), which the Wu and Chu forces then proceeded to besiege.

Christians are mostly concentrated in easternmost provinces and coastal areas, particularly in Zhejiang, Anhui, and generally in the Wu-speaking zone, the areas which were most affected by the Taiping, but also in Henan and Hebei.

However, per capita GDP is low compared to other eastern and central provinces, and Henan is considered to be one of the more backward areas in China.

The succeeding Tang Dynasty kept its capital in Chang ' an, marking the beginning of China's second golden age, with Henan being one of the wealthiest places in the empire.

In the subsequent famines of the early 1960s popularly attributed to the Great Leap Forward, Henan was one of the hardest hit and millions of lives were lost.

By the early 1970s, China was one of the poorest countries in the world, and Henan was one of the poorest provinces in China.

Most Han stone pictures of Liubo show the players throwing sticks onto a mat between themselves ( with the Liubo board to the side of the mat ), and ceramic model Liubo sets such as the one excavated in 1972 from Lingbao in Henan province show six sticks lined up neatly between the two players.

In the Ming and Qing dynasties, Jingdezhen was named one of four famous towns in Chinese history, along with Foshan ( Guangdong Province ), Hankou ( Hubei Province ) and Zhuxianzhen ( Henan Province ).

Sun Jian also raised an army with ten-thousands of troops and joined Yuan Shu, one of the leaders of the coalition at Luyang ( 魯陽, present day Lushan County, Henan ).

King Zhaoxiang of Qin used this opportunity to mobilize additional forces against Zhao from Henei, in modern-day Henan province ; he bestowed one grade of noble rank to the population and ordered all men over the age of 15 to Changping to bolster the encirclement.

With 8, 626, 505 inhabitants according to the 2010 census and 3, 980, 250 in its built-up area ( 6 urban districts + 5 City + 1 County ), the city is one of the main built up areas of Henan region.

Due to its strategic location in one of the most populous areas in the world ( nearly 100 million people in Henan alone ) and in China's railway, road and aviation transport networks, Zhengzhou is increasingly attracting domestic and international investment as well as migrants from other areas, transforming the city into one of the largest economic centers in China.

Zhengzhou is the center of Henan highway network that provides roughly one hour road trip to the surrounding cities of Kaifeng, Xinxiang, Xuchang, Jiaozuo and Luoyang.
