The stage play Dark of the Moon ( 1942 ), by Howard Richardson and William Berney, is based on the ballad, as a reference to the influence of English, Irish and Scottish folktales and songs in the Appalachian region.

* The Tribune was referenced in one rendition of the popular 19th-century ballad, " No Irish Need Apply ", as performed by Tony Pastor, as the paper of choice of the anti-Irish antagonist in the song.

A number of its lines and the general plot resemble those of a contemporary broadside ballad " Patrick Fleming " ( also called " Patrick Flemmen he was a Valiant Soldier ") about an Irish highwayman executed in 1650.

" Star of the County Down " is an old Irish ballad set near Banbridge in County Down, in Northern Ireland.

Use in this term can be seen in a 1914 Irish Unionist ballad:

Bronski also remixed the track " Flowers in the Morning " by Northern Irish electronic band, Electrobronze in 2007, changing the style of the song from classical to Hi-NRG disco

The incident has been commemorated by Irish band, U2, in their 1983 protest song " Sunday Bloody Sunday ".

The John Lennon album Some Time in New York City features a song entitled " Sunday Bloody Sunday ", inspired by the incident, as well as the song " The Luck of the Irish ", which dealt more with the Irish conflict in general.

The Irish singer / songwriter Tommy Makem wrote a lighthearted song about the town, " Fare Thee Well, Enniskillen ," covered by The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem and The Dubliners.

Another early appearance on record followed in 1987, where Enya provided spoken ( not sung ) vocals in Irish on the song " Never Get Old " on Sinéad O ' Connor's debut album, The Lion and the Cobra.

An Irish folk song, " Gallipoli ", written by the Fureys was also sung and recorded by many others.

" They Can't Stop The Spring ", a song by Irish journalist and songwriter John Waters, represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007.

" In the post-Classical period, these rules fell into desuetude, and in popular verse simple assonance often suffices, as can be seen in an example of Irish Gaelic rhyme from the traditional song Bríd Óg Ní Mháille:
