A third publication, Green Book, contains recommendations for the use of symbols for physical quantities ( in association with the IUPAP ), while a fourth, the Gold Book, defines a large number of technical terms used in chemistry.

General: Symbols for quantities should be chosen according to the international recommendations from ISO 80000, the IUPAP red book and the IUPAC green book.

The International Union of Pure and Applied Physics ( IUPAP ) is an international non-governmental organization whose mission is to assist in the worldwide development of physics, to foster international cooperation in physics, and to help in the application of physics toward solving problems of concern to humanity.

Unlike other CC's, its memebership is made up of nominees from other prominent national and international bodies such as International Organization for Standardization ( ISO ), National Institute of Standards and Technology ( NIST ), National Physical Laboratory ( NPL ), International Astronomical Union ( IAU ), International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry ( IUPAC ) and International Union of Pure and Applied Physics ( IUPAP ).

The International Union of Pure and Applied Physics ( IUPAP ) resolved to commemorate the 100th year of the publication of Einstein's extensive work in 1905 as the ' World Year of Physics 2005 '.

The IUPAC / IUPAP Transfermium Working Group report in 1992 officially recognised the GSI team as discoverers of bohrium.

In 1992 the IUPAC / IUPAP Transfermium Working Group assessed the claims of the two groups and concluded that confidence in the discovery grew from results from both laboratories and the claim of discovery should be shared.

The IUPAC / IUPAP Transfermium Working Group ( TWG ) recognised the GSI collaboration as official discoverers in their 1992 report.

In 1992, the IUPAC / IUPAP Transfermium Working Group ( TWG ) assessed the claims of discovery and concluded that both teams provided contemporaneous evidence to the synthesis of element 104 and that credit should be shared between the two groups.

The naming and credit for discovery of those elements remained unresolved for many years but eventually shared credit was recognized by IUPAC / IUPAP in 1992.

The IUPAC / IUPAP Joint Working Party ( JWP ) recognised the GSI team as discoverers in their 2001 report.

In 2001, the IUPAC / IUPAP Joint Working Party ( JWP ) concluded that there was insufficient evidence for the discovery at that time.

The IUPAC / IUPAP Joint Working Party ( JWP ), however, has made no comment on whether or not the element can be recognized as discovered.

IUPAP carries out this Mission by: sponsoring international meetings ; fostering communications and publications ; encouraging research and education ; fostering the free circulation of scientists ; promoting international agreements on the use of symbols, units, nomenclature and standards ; and cooperating with other organizations on disciplinary and interdisciplinary problems.

IUPAP is a member of the International Council for Science ( ICSU ).

After a year of experimentation and discussion, the task force produced the Red Book Compact Disc standard.

Written CD-Rs and CD-RWs are, from a technical standpoint, fully compatible with the Audio CD ( Red Book ) and CD-ROM ( Yellow Book ) standards, although some hardware compatible with Red Book CDs may have difficulty reading CD-Rs and especially CD-RWs.

Some drives use special techniques, such as Plextor's GigaRec or Sanyo's HD-BURN, to write more data onto a given disc ; these techniques are inherently deviations from the Compact Disc ( Red, Yellow, and / or Orange Book ) standards, making the recorded discs proprietary-formatted and not fully compatible with standard CD players and drives.

Nothing in the Red, Yellow or Orange Book standards prohibits disc reading / writing devices from having the capacity to read or write discs beyond the Compact Disc standards.

The pregroove is molded into the top side of the polycarbonate disc, where the pits and lands would be molded if it were a pressed ( nonrecordable ) Red Book CD ; the bottom side, which faces the laser beam in the player or drive, is flat and smooth.

The main sources available for discussion of this period include Gildas's De Excidio Britanniae and Nennius's Historia Brittonum, the Annales Cambriae, Anglo Saxon Chronicle, William of Malmesbury's Gesta Regum Anglorum and De Antiquitate Glastoniensis Ecclesiae, along with texts from the Black Book of Carmarthen and the Red Book of Hergest, and Bede's Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum as well as " The Descent of the Men of the North " ( Bonedd Gwŷr y Gogledd, in Peniarth MS 45 and elsewhere ) and the Book of Baglan.
