Imperial War Museums ( IWM ) is a British national museum organisation with branches at five locations in England, three of which are in London.

These systems were incorporated in ' A Family in Wartime ' an exhibition at IWM London depicting British family life during the Second World War, which opened in April 2012.

Of interest is that the entire Apple Disk II Card, used for controlling floppy drives, had been shrunk down into a single chip called the “ IWM ” which stood for Integrated Wozniak Machine.

These two models can be upgraded via the M0244 upgrade kit ( which replaces the IWM disk controller with the SWIM ) and gain full use of the SuperDrive.

An example is on display under cover in a hangar in IWM Duxford.

The new drive was controlled by the same IWM chip as in previous models, implementing variable speed GCR.

This new filing system allowed it use the first hard drive Apple developed for the 512K, the IWM floppy disk-based Hard Disk 20 and the new ROMs allowed the Macintosh to use the drive as a startup disk for the first time.

The first, in 1976, was a historic airfield in Cambridgeshire now referred to as IWM Duxford.

Finally, 2002 saw the opening of IWM North in Trafford, Greater Manchester, the fifth branch of the museum and the first in the north of England.

Admission is free to IWM London and IWM North, but an admission fee is levied at the other branches.

A partnership between the IWM, the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, and Scottish, Northern Irish and Welsh museum authorities, phase one included a touring exhibition seen by more than two million people, overseas educational visits and further activities run by local authorities.

In October 2011 the museum rebranded itself as Imperial War Museums, the acronym IWM forming the basis of a new corporate logo.

In December 2010 plans were announced to redevelop IWM London's First World War gallery in time for the conflict's centenary in 2014, and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge became the foundation's patron.

The redevelopment will entail disruptive works in gallery spaces during autumn 2012, and a six-month closure of IWM London from January 2013.

Integrated water management ( IWM ) of stormwater has the potential to address many of the issues affecting the health of waterways and water supply challenges facing the modern urban city.

Also known as low impact development in the United States, or Water Sensitive Urban Design ( WSUD ) in Australia, IWM has the potential to improve runoff quality, reduce the risk and impact of flooding and deliver an additional water resource to augment potable supply.

IWM offers several techniques including stormwater harvest ( to reduce the amount of water that can cause flooding ), infiltration ( to restore the natural recharge of groundwater ), biofiltration or bioretention ( e. g., rain gardens ) to store and treat runoff and release it at a controlled rate to reduce impact on streams and wetland treatments ( to store and control runoff rates and provide habitat in urban areas ).

IWM as a movement can be regarded as being in its infancy and brings together elements of drainage science, ecology and a realization that traditional drainage solutions transfer problems further downstream to the detriment of our environment and precious water resources.

IWM London ( Imperial War Museum ) is also near the South Bank, hosting exhibitions from the first world war to the present day.

Some women working for change in society use IWM to help the movement for women's rights.

The SuperDrive cannot be used with the original four Mac models ( Macintosh 128K through Macintosh Plus ), as their disk controller ( IWM ) doesn't support high density.

The facility is also home to The Raider Image, the merchandise arm of the franchise, which the public can visit.

An image starts with a fixed-length Image Descriptor, which may specify the presence and size of a Local Color Table ( which follows next if present ).

In a post-colonial reading, the Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe, author of Things Fall Apart, famously criticized Heart of Darkness in his 1975 lecture An Image of Africa: Racism in Conrad's " Heart of Darkness ", saying the novella de-humanized Africans, denied them language and culture and reduced them to a metaphorical extension of the dark and dangerous jungle into which the Europeans venture.

For example, in Spitting Image, Major's puppet was changed from a circus performer to that of a grey man who ate dinner with his wife in silence, occasionally saying " nice peas, dear ", whilst at the same time nursing an unrequited crush on his colleague Virginia Bottomley – an invention, but an ironic one in view of his affair with Edwina Currie, which was not then a matter of public knowledge.

The book was initially published by Pacific Comics, briefly by Eclipse Comics, then Marvel Comics under their since-discontinued Epic Comics imprint ( which allowed creators to retain copyrights ), then Image Comics, and currently Dark Horse Comics.

Convinced by Romero, a production company called Image Ten was formed which included Romero, Russo, Streiner, Hardman and Eastman.

At the time, such imagery was viewed as nationalistic and racially insensitive by the British music press ; to quiet concerns, Blur subsequently released the " British Image 2 " photo, which was " a camp restaging of a pre-war aristocratic tea party ".
