* Il teatro alla moda, a satirical pamphlet by Benedetto Marcello, is published anonymously in Venice.
Marcello vented his opinions on the state of musical drama at the time in the satirical pamphlet Il teatro alla moda, published anonymously in Venice in 1720.
The following year, he showed at Piccolo teatro his first ediction of Il Signor G (" Mister G "), a recital he repeated in many Italian squares.
It was written for an 1883 competition of one-act operas by the publisher Sonzogno in his periodical Il teatro illustrato, but did not even earn an honourable mention.

However in 1875 Carl Rosa tempted him back to the stage for a season at the Princess's Theatre, London, in which he played in Le nozze di Figaro, Il trovatore, The Siege of Rochelle ( as Michel ), Cherubini's The Water Carrier ( Mikelì ) and The Porter of Havre ( Martin ).
After graduating from the Piccolo Theatre School of Milan, he landed a small part in Un Maledetto Imbroglio ( The Facts of Murder ) ( 1959 ), directed by Pietro Germi, and continued to play supporting roles in such films as Il Gobbo ( The Hunchback ), directed by Carlo Lizzani and Rocco and His Brothers ( both released in 1960 ), directed by Luchino Visconti.
In 1770, she began her career as a singer with Giuseppe Scolari's opera Il Viaggiatore Ridicolo, in the Theatre of Bairro Alto.
In 1977 she made her debut with the Opera Company of Philadelphia portraying Senta in Wagner's The Flying Dutchman and in 1979 made her debut with Michigan Opera Theatre as Lenora in Il trovatore.
This led to offers from numerous international opera companies ranging from Claudio Monteverdi to Peter Maxwell Davies, including Pamina, Despina, Susanna, Aminta ( Il re pastore ), Vixen, Michaela, Musetta, Ophelie, Leila, Marguerite, Violetta, Julietta ( Bohuslav Martinů ) and Adina for companies such as the Canadian Opera Company, Scottish Opera, English National Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Spoleto Festival, Opéra de Nice, Vlaamse Opera, New Zealand Opera, National Theatre of Prague, and Opera North.
The larger of the two had 175 members and gave London seasons in 1902 and 1903 at Covent Garden, in 1904 at Drury Lane, and in 1907 and 1908 at the Lyric Theatre when the repertoire included The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Marriage of Figaro, Tannhäuser, Lohengrin, Tristan and Isolde, Faust, Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci, Madame Butterfly, Aïda and Il trovatore.
