In more recent years, the Indonesian film industry has also become an international force in the genre, with the Iko Uwais starring films Merantau ( 2009 ) and The Raid: Redemption ( 2011 ).

Sivaji Ganesan, and S. V. Ranga Rao won their respective first international award for Best Actor held at Afro-Asian Film Festival in Cairo and Indonesian Film Festival in Jakarta for the films Veerapandiya Kattabomman and Narthanasala in 1959 and 1963.

Auto rickshaws are often portrayed in Indian films ( Auto Shankar ( film ), Basha, Aye Auto, Oram Po ) as well as some Hollywood and foreign productions such as the James Bond film Octopussy, the Canada-India film Amal and the Indonesian movie Pembalasan Rambu.
