James Richard " Jim " Leyland ( born December 15, 1944 ) is a Major League Baseball manager, currently with the Detroit Tigers.

In Series 10, Episode 07 of Top Gear ( airdate 25 November 2007 ), presenter Richard Hammond bought and drove a green Triumph Dolomite Sprint in the £ 1200 British Leyland cheap car challenge.

Instead of being the brainchild of one man ( in the case of NZL-20, Bruce Farr ) she was designed by a team of Tom Schnackenberg, Doug Peterson, Laurie Davidson, David Egan, Peter Jackson, Maury Leyland, David Alan-Williams, Anthony Lehmann, Richard Karn, Wayne Smith, Mike Drumond, Chris Mitchell and Neil Wilkinson.

There are over forty forms of Leyland Cypress, and as well as ' Haggerston Grey ' and ' Leighton Green ', other well-known forms include ' Stapehill ', which was discovered in 1940 in a garden in Ferndown, Dorset by M. Barthelemy and ' Castlewellan ', which originated from a single mutant tree in the Castlewellan estate arboretum in Northern Ireland.

This body + chassis approach has continued with modern specialist manufacturers, although there also exist integral designs such as the Leyland National where the two are practically inseparable.

Jim Leyland, a two-time NL Manager of the Year who had won the World Series with the Florida Marlins two years earlier, was expected to bring the Rockies back into contention in 1999.

The Leyland era lasted just one year, as a frustrated Leyland retired following the season, not to manage in the majors again until 2006, when he won an AL Pennant with the Detroit Tigers.

Boles returned to his previous position as director of player development, and former Pittsburgh Pirates manager Jim Leyland was hired to lead the club in.

In addition to hiring Leyland as manager, the Marlins signed third baseman Bobby Bonilla, outfielder Moisés Alou, and pitcher Alex Fernandez to lucrative free-agent contracts, raising expectations to levels far beyond anything in franchise history.

Although the brand originates from the original 1947 model, Land Rover as a company has only existed since 1978, prior to this it was a product line of the Rover Company which was subsequently absorbed into the Rover-Triumph division of the British Leyland Motor Corporation ( BL ) following Leyland Motor Corporation ’ s takeover of Rover in 1967.

The ongoing commercial success of the original Land Rover series models, and latterly the Range Rover in the 1970s in the midst of BL ’ s well documented business troubles prompted the establishment of a separate Land Rover company but still under the BL umbrella, remaining part of the subsequent Rover Group in 1988 under the ownership of British Aerospace after the remains of British Leyland were broken up and privatised.

During its ownership by Ford, Land Rover was once again associated with Jaguar-the first time the two companies had been under the same umbrella since the British Leyland era.

When Hyundai wanted to develop their own car, they hired George Turnbull, the former Managing Director of Austin Morris at British Leyland.

Further Group B cars were developed by Ford ( the RS200 ), British Leyland ( the Metro 6R4 ) and many others, but these were less successful.

The band name was shortened to Marillion in 1981 to avoid potential copyright conflicts at the same time as Fish and bassist Diz Minnett joined after an audition at Leyland Farm Studios in Buckinghamshire on 2 January 1981.

Some of the truck models sold with the DAF brand are designed and built by Leyland Trucks at their plant in England.

In 1987 DAF merged with the Leyland Trucks division of Rover Group, and was floated on the Dutch stock exchange as DAF NV.

The new company traded as Leyland DAF in the UK, and as DAF elsewhere.

Other vehicles in the DAF range have included the inherited from Leyland trucks Roadrunner ( Badged DAF 600, 800, 1000 On the Continent ) which evolved into the 45 Series, the cab of which was used on the 18 ton gross 55, also as a military spec 4 × 4.

A short-lived model was the 1990-93 80 Series using the T45 Roadtrain cab acquired from the Leyland trucks takeover, fitted with the ATI driveline.

A new company, DAF Trucks, appeared in the Netherlands as a result of a management buy-out of the Dutch operations, as did Leyland Trucks and LDV ( vans ) in the UK.

Interestingly, DAF Trucks and Leyland Trucks were rejoined in 1998 when PACCAR also acquired Leyland Trucks.

Sir John Harvey had supervised Lieutenant Colonel Winfield Scott during his time as prisoner of war during the War of 1812, and the President and his advisers saw that relationship as a point of mutual respect.

Van Rensselaer appointed Lieutenant Colonel Winfield Scott of the 2nd U. S. Artillery to take command of the regulars on Queenston Heights.

Six days later, he embarked a battalion of troops commanded by Colonel Winfield Scott at the Niagara.
