In addition to other member churches, the churches of the Anglican Communion are in full communion with the Old Catholic churches of the Union of Utrecht and the Scandinavian Lutheran churches of the Porvoo Communion in Europe, the India-based Mar Thoma and Malabar Independent Syrian churches and the Philippine Independent Church, also known as the Aglipayan Church.

# The Anglican Communion, the Old Catholic Church, the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of India, and the Philippine Independent Church.

The church is locally headed by the autonomous Catholicos and its present primate is Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II, Catholicos of the East and the Malankara Metropolitan.

In 1653, after the Coonan Cross Oath, Archdeacon Thomas was consecrated as Bishop Mar Thoma I, thus the role was changed and his line continued until Mar Thoma VIII in 1815 among the Malankara Orthodox Syrians.

This was followed by a general meeting at Allangad on 22 May 1653 where Archdeacon Thomas was elevated to the status of bishop with the title Mar Thoma I by laying on of hands of 12 leading priests of the church.

The other section of Christians under the Roman Catholic Church did not consider Mar Thoma I as a bishop due to the nature of his ordination and many of the revolters returned to the Roman Catholic Church between 1653 and 1665 as a result of the proselytization efforts of the Carmelite missionaries sent by Rome.

At long last, Mar Gregorios Abdul Jaleel, the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem arrived in 1665 and regularised the ordination of Mar Thoma I.

* Mar Thoma I ( 1653 – 1670 ) – In 1653, Kuravilangad Parampil Thomas of Pakalomattam family was consecrated with the title Marthoma I by the elders of the Malankara church.

* Mar Thoma II ( 1670 – 1686 ) – Before his demise in 1670, Mar Thoma I ordained his nephew as Mar Thoma II.

According to a local tradition once the people of Niranam were suffering from severe drought and they appealed to Mar Thoma II for his special prayers.

Mar Thoma II led the church for 16 years and died in 1686.

As the X sometimes goes unseen, Marx toys were, and are still today, often misidentified as " Mar " toys.

During his time Eldho Mor Baselios and Hidayathullah Mar Ivanios from Syria visited Malankara.

In 1752 when Mar Baselios and Mar Gregorios came to Malankara, they insisted that he should receive their Ordination but he refused to comply fearing Antiochean domination.

Not only that, he consecrated his successor Mar Thoma VI without any assistance from foreign bishops, thus severing all allegiance to foreign bishops. Until Mar Thoma V, Malankara Church followed almost entirely East Syriac language, liturgy and practices.

The new bishops after Marthoma IX came from different families and they came to be known more popularly with the title Malankara Metropolitans rather than as Mar Thoma.

In 1825 to 1855 H. H. Philipose Mar Dionisius 4th Mar Dionisius lead the Malankara Church.

The present Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan is Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II, who was enthroned on 1 November 2010, at Parumala Church by the Holy Synod.

Though Pala has remained very conservative in faith and beliefs, due to the large influence of education and media which promoted free thinking and freedom of choice, it has also welcomed and promoted a number of Reformed Evangelical and Pentecostal churches, namely Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, Malankara Christian Church, Indian Pentecostal Church of God, Assemblies of God etc.

The church is regularly used for worship by the Romanian and Russian Orthodox Churches, and the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church.

Mathews Mar Athanasius was the Malankara Metropolitan approved by the Governments of Travancore and of Cochin and the group with him was known as " Reform Party " since Mathews Mar Athanasius was supportive to the reformation of Jacobite church with evangelistic ideologies.

Later they chose the name Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church.

In 1930 a section of the Malankara Church under the leadership of Mar Ivanios and Mar Theophilus left the Church and came into communion with the Catholic Church.

In 1961, there was a split in the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church which resulted in the formation of St. Thomas Evangelical Church.

St. George Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church at Kadamattam near Muvattupuzha is very old and was founded by Mar Abo Syrian Metropolitan in 5th Century A. D.

The Portuguese subjection of the Saint Thomas Christians was relatively measured at first, but they became more aggressive after 1552, the year of the death of Metropolitan Mar Jacob and of a schism in the Church of the East, which resulted in there being two rival Patriarchs – one of whom entered communion with the Catholic Church.

Syro-Malabar Hierarchy was established on 21 December 1923 with the Metropolitan Mar Augustine Kandathil as the Head of their Church.

As a protest against the interference of the Anglican Church in the affairs of the Jacobite Church, the Metropolitan, Cheppad Mar Dionysius, convened a Synod at Mavelikara on 16 January 1836.

Many Saint Thomas Christian bishops like Mar James Kalaserry and Metropolitan Abraham Mar Thoma, supported the nationalistic movemenets in 1930s and 1940s.

Previously overseen by Metropolitan Mar Narsai D ' Baz, but as no successor has been appointed, the current bishops oversee their individual dioceses until a new Metropolitan is appointed.

Overseen by Metropolitan Mar Aprem and two Episcopas, Mar Yohannan Joseph and Mar Augin Kuriakose, the Archdiocese of India consists of over 24 churches in Kerala and five churches outside Kerala ( one each at Coimbatore, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai and New Delhi ).

Overseen by Metropolitan Mar Gewargis Sliwa, who resides in Baghdad, Iraq.

In the earlier letters he poses as a purveyor of Cumberland sausages and former prep school proprietor who is seeking guidance on the Christian faith, and in the later letters he poses as His Grace the Most Reverend the Archbishop of the Old Northern Catholick Church of the East Riding Mar Francis II Metropolitan and Primate, Knight Grand Commander of the Order of Saint John of Beverly ( 1st Class ).
