Archduke Charles of Austria, Duke of Teschen (, also known as Karl von Österreich-Teschen ) ( Full name: Karl Ludwig Johann Josef Lorenz of Austria ) ( 5 September 1771 – 30 April 1847 ) was an Austrian field-marshal, the third son of emperor Leopold II and his wife Infanta Maria Luisa of Spain.

Francis was a son of the future Emperor Leopold II ( 1747 – 1792 ) and his wife Maria Luisa of Spain ( 1745 – 1792 ), daughter of Charles III of Spain.

Upon the death of the Queen ( Maria Luisa of Savoy ), Alberoni in concert with La Trémoille arranged for a marriage in 1714 between the widowed King and Elisabetta Farnese, daughter of the Duke of Parma.

The family moved to Rome in the 18th century, where Duke Domenico ( November 23, 1790 – April 28, 1874 ), married Maria Luisa Torlonia in 1823.

In 1847, after Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma's death, it passed again to the Bourbons, the last of whom was stabbed in the city and left it to his Widow, Luisa Maria of Berry.

On 2 November 1701 Philip married the 13-year old Maria Luisa of Savoy, as chosen by his grandfather.

As queen of Spain, Maria Luisa proved very popular with her subjects.

Shortly after the death of Queen Maria Luisa in 1714, the King decided to marry again.

After the death of his wife, he never remarried but was father to another eleven illegitimate children from 1600 onwards by the following mistresses, Luisa de Duing, Argentina Provana, Catherine de Roussillon ( mother of Margherita di Savoia who was an ancestor of Maria Teresa Cybo-Malaspina ), Virginia Pallavicino, Anna Caterina Meraviglia and Anna Felizita Cusa.

Other candidates included Maria Antonia of Austria, a Countess Palatine of Neuburg and Anna Maria Luisa de ' Medici.

Forced to ally himself again this time to Louis XIV and his grandson in Spain, his daughter Maria Luisa was used as a pawn to seal this alliance.

His second daughter Maria Luisa known in the family as Louison would marry Philip V of Spain in 1701 and was also regent of Spain for various periods.

In 1795 an anti-feudal uprising broke out in the town, led by the Emissary of the Viceroy Giovanni Maria Angioy, a Sardinian civil servant, who later fought unsuccessfully against the house of Savoy.

Through his mother Zita of Bourbon-Parma ( a great-granddaughter of Maria Teresa of Savoy, Duchess of Lucca and Parma, who was a daughter of Maria Teresa of Austria-Este, Queen of Sardinia, who in turn was a daughter of Maria Beatrice Ricciarda d ' Este and Archduke Ferdinand of Austria-Este, Duchess and Duke of Breisgau and Modena ), Robert was a descendant of Ercole III d ' Este, and the blood of last Este dukes thus joined again with the name Austria-Este.

On 14 May 1771, Louis Stanislas married Princess Maria Giuseppina of Savoy.

Charles X married Princess Maria Teresa of Savoy, the daughter of Victor Amadeus III, King of Sardinia and Maria Antonietta of Spain, on 16 November 1773.

He was born in Munich to Ferdinand Maria, Elector of Bavaria and Henriette Adelaide of Savoy ( d. 1676 ).
