In a restoration hangar nearby is a de Havilland Mosquito formerly used by the squadron, which is being restored for display.

The collection is based around the definitive prototype and restoration shops for the de Havilland Mosquito and also includes several examples of the de Havilland Vampire-the third operational jet aircraft in the world.

On 20 July 1943 the Royal New Zealand Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force moved in with No. 487 Squadron RNZAF and No. 464 Squadron RAAF taking up residence with their Lockheed Ventura aircraft having moved from RAF Methwold before converting at Sculthorpe onto the De Havilland Mosquito.

Guy Gibson, Wing Commander and the first CO of the RAF's 617 Squadron which he led in the " Dam Busters " raid in 1943, crashed with his Mosquito aircraft in this municipality.

On 8 July 1942, Kuttelwascher was assigned to No. 23 Squadron RAF flying the de Havilland Mosquito on night intruder missions.

After the war No. 25 Squadron continued to operate the Mosquito until November 1951, when they were replaced by Vampires, conversion to type having commenced in February 1951.

143 Squadron were based at Banff at the time and were operating the De Havilland Mosquito Mk. VI.

Disbandment did not last long however, the following day No. 128 Squadron, operating Mosquito B. 16s at RAF Wahn in Germany, was renumbered No. 14 squadron and the squadron lived again.

The station retained a reconnaisance role for some years after the war, with Avro Lancaster, Spitfire, Mosquito, Gloster Meteor PR. Mk 10 and English Electric Canberra PR. Mk 3 aircraft.

RAF Station Greenwood was selected to train aircrew on the De Havilland Mosquito, beginning July 3, 1943.

World War two saw the beginning of the widespread use of high speed bombers which dispensed with defensive weapons to be able to attain higher speed, such as with the de Havilland Mosquito, a philosophy that continued with many Cold War bombers.
